The game can probably get a little boring alone but with a friend it should be quite fun for a while.

Not only is much of the art style similar; the cinematic cut scenes, the look & feel of units - it also laid the groundwork for many of the now-classic gameplay mechanics; the most prominent being the siege mechanic where a unit sacrifices mobility for power and range. Think of the "Gray" as Xel'Naga - an ancient race that uses bionic life forms as weapons.

Think of the "Gray" as Xel'Naga - an ancient race that uses bionic life forms as weapons. How was Dark Colony the precursor to StarCraft? WarCraft (2) laid the groundwork for most of SC's interface, and Command&Conquer had cinematic cut scenes a long time before. It may or may not have been the first game to introduce specific details like siege mode, but that's about it. All I remember about the game was that it paled compared to Dark Reign and Total Annihilation, which were released around the same time, that base building was very simple, there was only one ressource and that the units from both sides were basically the same, just with different skins. I did enjoy it nonetheless, the day/night thing was cool and artifacts made for fun situations. But it doesn't deserve the title "StarCraft's precursor" as it lacked most of what made SC1 so awesome at the time - mechanics, diversity, balance, complexity and replay value.

This is an amazing little storyline-based RPG for the Nintendo DS. You literally spend about 25% of your game time in conversations which are actually worth checking out, it's pretty incredible. Also has a nice semi-cheesy but still pretty unpredictable storyline with multiple endings. This game is our classic LAN shooter. It's really so much fun to not know where the heck you got shot from this time, but you hear the guy next to you chuckling because you ran into his trap AGAIN.

Tribes (1 and 2): + Show Spoiler + Most amazing style of RTS ever, it also effectively lived and died with Tribes 2 to be almost wholly replaced by Halo style RTSes that can't even compare. So many untapped ideas, especially the Rabbit game type. The trade-off of momentum for unpredictable movement combined with skill shot weapons and was awesome. Mirror's Edge + Show Spoiler + Ok so tons of people hated this and had every reason to. It's still MASSIVELY underrated and the movement and gameplay was top notch. There's so many ways this type of genre could go, especially if the developers aren't afraid of their game like DICE. The big issue with ME is that the devs weren't confident enough that the parkour would be engrossing enough for people so they forced a lot of combat into the game. Outside of the cut scenes and lame stories this was one of the most immersive feeling games I've played in a long time. No other first person game has come even remotely close to giving me the spacial awareness that ME did. The gaming world is going to be seriously missing out by the delayed/canceled/? sequel and lack of games following in its footsteps. I really wish ME had mod support because modders could have do so many amazing things with the game. I would have loved to see a RE survival horror style game done with the movement and a similar weapon system of ME.

It's basically a game engine that was originally designed to replicate the gameplay of Total Annihilation, but now it has grown into a full-fledged RTS engine (though it's still mostly used to play Total Annihilation-like games). I always enjoy coming back to this game whenever I need a Starcraft 2 break.

For anyone that loves to build characters of different kinds in a rpg game you should check it out still. its like 10 years old now, but nothing compares to the level of detail in making a character in this game. Hard thing is finding a well run server now a days. Servers are completely player made with the toolset, run and updated by players. Its a very unique game compared to mmo's

Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner Really doesn't need any introduction, but I still meet people that haven't played it. To be honest, it's one of the most fun games that I've ever played. Pretty sure you can even get it on emulator now, so go out and play it! Gameplay Videos + Show Spoiler +

Best. Game. Ever. (along with the rest of the X series) One of my most favorite and memorable DOS games while growing up as a kid. Episode 4 was my favorite but the entire series is awesome as well. Another AWESOME DOS game.
