It's pretty easy to find people who say Oblivions sucks, same goes for Dragon age (which other people were posting about it being overated). People who think that Oblivion sucks are a minority. They have been gaming in the 90's and have a lot of knowledge about Crpg and video games in general and when they say that Oblivion is mediocre they can back up their claim. They have played the older Elder Scrolls games, the BG / Fallout / Ultima /etc... series. How can they underrate a game when they are the only people who can make a comparison with the previous references of the genre ?
On the other hand you have a majority of people who have started to play during the 00's on console and who think that Oblivion was the best Crpg of all time. Tell me how a game is underrated when the majority of people think that this was the best game of the year ? Should i also mention that Oblivion won many awards including several GOTY ? Look the ratings for that game it is always a 90+ %, 5 stars or 9/10 on every mainstream site.
You guys seem to not really get it. They are not underrating Oblivion, YOU ( the majority ) are overrating this game and that's because you lack of knowledge about Crpg. That's like saying that CoD is underated because experienced FPS players will tell you it is shit lol. It is not underrated it is OVERRATED by the majority of people who think it is the best game of the year. Still funny how you are trying to reverse the value judgement lol.
TL:DR: leave ranking to the experts because they are qualified.

Starwars Galaxies Post NGE, most people hated the NGE beyond belief myself included, but the game did get better overtime and began to produce one of the best PVP experiences ever, with extremely complex PVP tactics and a very dynamic combat.

EPIC GAMEEEEEE
Prince of Persia is one that i can remember, as well Flashback (not sure if anyone played this it was early days on the PC).
Syndicate for PC i can remember sinking hours into that game.

The first KKND was so hard in single player, but so satisfying when you win a mission. I miss unforgiving rushing AIs like that. Also The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall was amazing(ly buggy) for its time, it had nudity too! Too bad Bethsada are now wussies that care more about the ESRB rating.

Valkyrie Profile 2, Star Ocean: Till the End of time: Probably the 2 best PS2 games I've ever played. So brilliantly crafted.
Drakengard 1-2: Although almost unheard of but I found the games very enjoyable. 3rd person perspective warrior, swinging large swords doing sick combo, mounting on dragons kickin ass without lag.

TL:DR: leave ranking to the experts because they are qualified. I personally don't think particularly highly of Oblivion (I don't think it is shit either, just not very good and every game you listed in your post was better by alot), I don't know where you got the impression that I did. I was merely defending the other poster because by the rules of the thread, he thinks that at least some people underrate it. Personally I think the gaming press and many console gamers certainly overrated it, but I also think that if he likes the game and thinks its haters are wrong then it was a fair post in this thread (though I do agree that it is a strange pick to put a game with over 90% on metacritic as being underrated but whatever).
Also the places that I frequent typically are full of people who say Oblivion was shit, so perhaps I thought that sentiment was more widespread than I thought. But I'm gonna stop talking about it after this post so it doesn't shit up this thread, which is supposed to be about games people like without needing to defend them.
Another game that I don't think gets enough love is
It got good reviews when it came out but nobody seems to think anything of it anymore. It was pretty similar to Mario 64, but it adds enough stuff to the formula to be great (imo of course). Also I feel it was superior to Banjo-Kazooie in every possible way

Outpost - One of my favourite PC games ever... first one I ever actually played. Followed by Warcraft
JetSet Radio - best Dream Cast Game ever !
Carmegeddon - Nuff Said
and probably my favourtie game ever .... Shadowrun for the Genesis.

Super Probotector: Alien Rebels on SNES. One of the best (and most impossible, at least on hard) games ever.
|
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.
I grew up on mortal kombat 1-2, and really never got into any of them from 3 and on wards though I dabbled in them. Then this year I played Shaolin Monks and it was amazing as it made so many old school references to the first two games. Back in the day when rumors were the way to open secret characters as the internet wasn't big. It was just an amazingly enjoyable nostalgic experience even though the game was definitely mediocre from an objective POV

If you think the game is too hard then you are doing it wrong. Most people start the game and quit when they die to the first enemy's leap attack. Remember, side-step + back-stab for great justice.
This game made me slam my head into the door whenever I died.

SO2 was definately my favorite RPG. Bought a PS2 just for it.

Another AWESOME DOS game.
Bitmap Brothers actually released a windows sequel to this. It's only one level and not as awesome as the original but it is quite good.

Solid hit detection, fairly hard to get someone stuck in an instant-death-loop by juggling in the corner. (Actually, you could occasionally do more damage, in return, if someone tried to do that to you) No online multiplayer, but in person, it's a blast. Has solid RPG elements (i.e. upgrades), single player actually has a storyline for each of the characters. Character attributes means something & change the style of play. Solid progression in multiple tournaments. Each of the mechs you can choose do something different/better than the others. (And I hate the freaking Shadow to this day; I was a master at the Jaguar, though; ah, the joys of leaping into my brother and taking him down, I loved the counters) All in all, a great little game. Not sure how well it'll run now with DosBox, but if you want a solid single-player fighting game, this really has an incredible amount of depth to it. http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/94/One Must Fall 2097.html Very happy to see this . I played the crap out of OMF back in the day, and I still play it every now and then. Also, the main theme is awesome. + Show Spoiler +My pick would have to be Master of Magic: MoM and OMF are definitely some of my top favorite DOS games. In fact, I think I'll go and play one of these right now . Oh, the nostalgia!
Master of Magic is so win, I still play that shit. Excellent choice!

I don't know if it has been metioned yet but Okami, while very well received by critics, is not well known enough: + Show Spoiler +
It's a brilliant, beautiful game that I will always remember fondly.
Two others, one is more well known than the other but still, they both deserve so much more love than they get:
Ico:+ Show Spoiler +
And ico's spiritual successor, shadow of the colossus: + Show Spoiler +
SoTC Is a very simple game with a very simple story, and that's what's beautiful about it. If you like to use your imagination, play these games. They are diferent from anything released.

for me, its all about Star Trek Armada. Probably one of the 1st RTS's i played for an extended period of time.
Game was actually sick, i mean, if the shields were down on an enemy ship, you could transport some of your crew from your ship to fight the rest of their crew off, and then commandeer that vessle! kick ass! my favorite moment was just building Starbases everywhere on the map instead of making turrets, and was just fun to play as borg, and romulan, klingon, etc. Man, good times! + Show Spoiler +
