Now that means that you either have to keep a copy of your SC2 in stasis ans hit it up making sure it can't connect to the Bnet, or simply download an old HotS/WoL pirated version just to watch replays... It doesn't work. I backed up the most recent 2.x client but I'm stuck at the log-in screen. I think it's possible to get past it, but you have to re-authenticate every month any ways or it would be too easy to 'pirate' the single-player content. The pirated versions of SC2 are all very old versions, in order to watch replays someone has to crack a more recent client. I can confirm this. It basically prevents you from getting past the login screen if SC2 isn't patched, and you're unable to play/view replays offline - at least that is what I experienced. I also tried using SC2Switcher, but I ended up with the same result of being stuck at login. You have to cut the connection with the internet before logging in. Then you can watch your replays in offline mode. From what I've read, in order to play in offline mode you need to authenticate the game by connecting online once a month, so it's not a permanent solution.

Man getting another installation of SC2 pre-patch could work, right? Never let that one update and always launch it on Offline Mode. The only problem is that you won't be able to watch it with others online, but you will still be able to play it on your computer.
BTW The Authentication is made in some local files, not the game installation itself IIRC, so you simply let it authenticate with the standard installation of the game.. and then move the folder or rename it and put the old one
This would require to get like 25 GB of an old installation in other folder always to make it work... but it is the only thing I can think about... (I did something like that with other game time ago)

Where's the need to be able to watch replays from when the game had nothing in common with the current one (speaking of LotV), unit- or meta-wise?
I've got 15509 replay files in store right now. Not sure why. It's fun to see the progression in SC2Gears but other than that...?

I'm not a compulsive replay collector, but I do have about 30 which are great memories for me. GM/pro kills, amazing comebacks. great games. These are the replays I show off when friends come over who don't know sc2. -Pro players have their whole lives invested in this game and Blizz just comes along and deletes their memories. Think about players like Stephano, his IPL win etc. Now all that's left is screenshots.
What pisses me off is for what? Now my clan chat is MIXED with general chat. What a joke.

Because maybe some of them are worth? Anyway I don't care a lot about it, I simply tried to give my thoughts about this, so don't expect me to be mad about this change or even do what I said myself =P

You can filter the chat with the arrow on the top left.

I had a replay where Life played a game on one of my maps, and one where I played in a 4v4 vs qxc and mr bitter randomly on ladder... oh well, I suppose I wasn't likely to watch those again anyway.

Not a big deal. Who is really going to go back and watch replays of past expansions once they are playing LOTV full time?
|
....seriously. guys. how many times have you actually loaded up an old replay tho? Even if you did, if there was a patch change eg when sh change was done, its already made everything before it zvX useless. Why does anyone really care about this.
i play this game a lot and the ONLY replays i watch are a few of the recent tournies. so, after blizzCon . . who the fuck cares about hots anymore?

That should be a simple process (it might be a lot of work, but still simple work). This is not possible. It's not a format problem. Even if you keep the replay format it will stop working if you make any changes to the game engine, because the replays only contain user input. You need the old executables.

Has anyone found a way to watch old replays? Tonight I am going to try to resurrect an old computer and use that.
|
Can you please stop telling me at which frequency I'm supposed to watch old replays in order to make it worth it?
I've put a lot of time into getting my collection. It's not exhaustive, but it's as damn close as I could get it to be. No, I'm not watching them every day, nor every week. So? I'm pretty sure I get to be annoyed by this if I decide to.

I just copy/pasted the whole SC2 folder pre patch, put it on another harddrive and then just "dropped" the replay file on the SC2Swticher.exe icon under the Support folder. After downloading about 3 GB of data I could watch the replay. I don't know if it has to download those files every time you watch a replay or just this once for that particular patch but at least it worked.
Edit: It was while I was connected to the internet.

And who are you to tell people how they should treat their replays? If losing them doesn't raise a problem to you, then fine; but don't tell others they shouldn't care as well...

Twitch vods aren't saved. So sometime you want to rewatch that really cool game you downloaded. Maybe you don't use it. But some does. Sometime when i don't have anything to watch (stream, tv show) i load up a nice replay and watch it while eating or something like that.
YOU don't watch replays like that. Some people do.

Thanks mate, you're an absolute legend. I can confirm that dropping (and opening) the replay file via SC2Switcher.exe loads up replays and allows you to watch them. Thanks OminouS! :D

This used to be pretty common for early SC2 patches, yeah?
I think I remember back in the day that Day[9] was lamenting how he had to use an old client to watch his Patch 1.5 replays.
Maybe I'm mistaken though.
