Game 1
Map: The Lost Temple
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started at 9, Veg at 3. Froz opened with a fac-cc build while Veg went for 2 fact vults into a tank drop. Veg’s vultures did nothing and Froz expanded freely with siege mode and turrets. Soon after that Veg ferried 4 tanks onto Froz’s ledge to keep him busy while expanding for himself. By the time Froz nullified the threat from above with a dropship of tanks/goli’s Veg had powered up and both players were looking equal. Both players were armed with several dropships full of tanks and goliaths. Froz then tried to clinch the 6 oclock expansion. Veg saw it and both players initiated a dropping war at 6. After each skirmish Veg always survived with a few tanks but the undaunted Froz kept coming. Finally Veg secured 6 with his tanks/turrets and took 12 and halted all of Froz’s drops with superior drops of his own. In a matchup where long games are usually seen, Veg showed perfect macro and dropping intuition and won fairly fast.
1-0 Veg
Game 2
Map: Neo Bifrost
The Game: Froz Protoss, Veg Terran. Froz started at the top spot, Veg at the bottom spot. Froz’s lack of playing lately is pe
rfectly exemplified through his naivety towards the Bifrost TvP gayness that Elky has all helped us grow accustomed to.
2-0 Veg
Game 3
Map: Avant Garde II
The Game: Froz Random Zerg, Veg Terran. Froz started at bottom left, Veg started at top right. Froz went for a fast exp into 2 hat lurkers with olspeed/drop. Veg used a quick 1 rax mm drop and exped while dropping. Veg’s drop killed a few drones, but Froz’s lurkers stopped it from doing any substantial damage. Froz tried expanding to the island right next to Veg’s main, in hope that Veg wouldn’t scout it. Sadly for Froz, Veg scouted it and killed it with a dropship full of M&M. Froz then loaded up all his overlords and sent them to drop Veg’s main. As Froz left, Veg dropped on his main with M&M. Since all of Froz’s troops were in-transit, the M&M went to town on Froz’s main. As Froz’s drop was eaten up by tanks/stimmed rines/vessel/turrets he quit the game and Veg gets off to a fantastic 3-0 start.
3-0 Veg
Game 4
Map: Gaema Gowon
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started at 2, Veg at 5. Veg went for 3 fact vultures into goliaths while Froz went goliath drop. Once again Veg’s vultures did nothing and Froz was able to expand for himself and stop Veg’s expansion with a goliath drop. Froz kept aggressively dropping on Veg’s natural ledge while Veg scrambled to keep enough turrets/tanks in order to thwart the drops. Froz pressed the advantage and kept dropping in open holes and got an easy win.
3-1 Veg
Game 5
Map: Plains to Hill
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started at top right, Veg at bottom left. Once again Veg went for 2 fact vultures while Froz went for 2 fac tank and 1 port wraith. Since it was Plains to Hill the vultures had 0 chance of doing anything to Froz’s main and Veg just mined up Froz’s exterior. But with a steady flow of tanks Froz easily blazed a trail through the mine field and seiged behind the minerals of Veg’s nat and expanded for himself. At this point Veg was already desperate because Froz was way ahead. Veg expanded to top left but the American hero scouted it with his 1 wraith and stopped it. Veg then snuck into Froz’s main and seiged up, but the splinter didn’t last long as a horde of SCVs easily dislodged it. Veg continued to pressure Froz’s exps with tanks behind minerals and tried to expand to weird places, but all his attempts were in vein as Froz was two steps ahead the whole game.
3-2 Veg
Game 6
Map: Neo Vertigo
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started top right, Veg at bottom right. Froz went double proxy raxes and Veg just so happened to build his rax outside too and saw Froz’s raxes with his SCV. Froz attacked with 3 rines and some SCVs but Veg managed to get one rine up his ramp as his bunker was just finishing. Froz, knowing he had to act fast, launched his rines up Veg’s ramp against a slew of SCVs and a 1 rine bunker. Froz killed a good amount of SCVs and got past the bunker with a few marines left. Once he got down into Veg’s main he saw a vulture making and abruptly quit the game.
4-2 Veg
Game 7
Map: Neo Forbidden Zone
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started top left, Veg at bottom right. Froz went for 2 port wraiths while Veg went for Goliath drop. Veg drops Froz, killing a lot of SCVs, but not any wraiths. Froz attacks Veg with all his wraiths and two tanks. Veg counter drops Froz’s main again. Froz quits.
5-2 Veg
Game 8
Map: Blade Storm
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started top left, Veg at bottom left. Froz went 2 port wraiths again while Veg did 2 fact again. This time Veg got his scouting SCV into Froz’s main and saw the starports, so he went goli’s. Froz, adapting to what he knew Veg would do, only got one wraith and expanded to his gas natural while getting tanks/siege mode. When Veg saw this he attacked with all his SCV’s but Froz just barely fended it off with a couple tanks and a bunch of SCVs. Veg’s exp finished soon and Froz went goli/tank drops while Veg played defensively. Both players took their mins-only’s but Froz stopped making mech and went for BC’s. Veg meanwhile amassed a huge army that could have easily overwhelmed Froz’s defenses and possibly ended the game. But Veg didn’t expect the BC’s and he tinkered around too long with his units for a while and let Froz cruise over him with BC/Tank.
5-3 Veg
Game 9
Map: Incubus
The Game: Froz Protoss, Veg Terran. Froz started top right, Veg at top left. Froz picked his off-race this game because he knew the imbalance would outweigh him not playing his best race. He built a proxy pylon outside his base and went for proxy 2 gate dragoon Nazgul style. This was a good choice because PvT isn’t imbalanced on close positions on this map, so he knew he would have to do something cheeky. Veg went two fact and fended off the dragoon onslaught but made a mistake in assuming Froz’s gayness would stop after the 2 proxy gate dragoon rush. With DT’s and goons Froz broke Veg’s choke and his DT’s were free to raise hell on Veg’s turret-less main.
5-4 Veg
Game 10
Map: Neo Silent Vortex
The Game: Froz Protoss, Veg Terran. Froz started top right, Veg at bottom right. Once again Froz favors imbalance over his better race. Froz opened with 1 gate goon obs exp. Veg opened with……you guessed it……2 FACT!!!!!! Veg did a Gundam style attack but Froz had enough goons/zeals in time to push it back for the for a while, but by then Veg had an expand of his own. While Veg started bringin?the heat again Froz kept his cool and continuously quelled all of Veg’s attempts at containment. Froz then grabbed a 2nd and 3rd expansion (one at the plateau closest to his main, another at top left) and went 1 gate carriers while pumping units. Veg saw two carriers and knowing if he didn’t do something fast, he’d die to them. Froz’s whole plan with the carriers was to make Veg scared to attack, giving him enough time to build up zeals/goons off of 3 exps. But Veg’s intuition foiled that plan as he smashed Froz’s plateau expand and took both middle plateaus for himself. Froz added more stargates and went for his only chance at victory ?a bunch of carriers. Veg just sat back and powered but didn’t get enough goliaths by the time Froz had his fleet of Carriers, and Froz rolled right over Veg’s expansions.
5-5 Tie
Game 11 ?for all the beans
Map: Lost Temple
The Game: Froz Terran, Veg Terran. Froz started at 3, Veg at 12. Knowing these positions heavily favor the 3 oclock spot because of the cliff, Veg went 2 fact tanks-golies and had to build up a large amount before doing anything in order to take control of his own choke. Froz went for fact-port-fact goli/tank and didn’t really use the port early game. Froz tried to contain Veg, but Veg’s large amount of troops pushed Froz back. Froz was able to take his natural with ease while Veg took 6 oclock (main and nat) because he feared Froz’s drops and knew he had to do something crazy to win these positions. Because Froz got his exp faster, he was economically ahead and invested all his money into a large dropship/tank/goli army. Veg just kept expanding while Froz systematically razed all of Veg’s expands and rebuffed all of Veg’s futile attacks on his main/cliff.
6-5 Froz
Rekrul’s Rating of the games in this series is a 2 out of 10. I did not like the fact that Veg went 2 fact style in all of the games except the TvZ, I was hoping for more diversity. I also did not like the fact that there were no really long and drawn out games. Its not common to see a bunch of short TvT’s (though, thank god it wasn’t a bunch of long ass TvT’s) but there should have been atleast one really GG. Too bad there wasn’t one, as I expected a bunch from these two high-class terrans.
The Froz the Phoenix fought back from an 0-3 deficit to claim a series win vs. the 2-facting macrolicious Veg. Once again he proves that he can play like a monster off of little practice. Next time around Froz will be playing vs TL.net’s very own ToT)Ace( (Ret) of the Netherlands (zerg). Let me warn Ret that Froz has actually started playing again and will probably play even better than he did in this series. GL FroZ&Ret and all of those who are going to LiquiBet.
