Update 1: CD Projekt Red has announced that this will be the last title in The Witcher series.
Update 2: CDPR studio manager says that though TW3 is the last in the trilogy, it might not be the last in the witcher universe.
CD Projekt Red announces The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, the third title in The Witcher series, for 2014.

The full announcement and more information can be found in gameinformer's march issue. Their article can be found here.
Luckily for us, INDIGO_CYCLOPS from NeoGAF shares very interesting tidbits about the full article and the game. The thread can be found here.
Here's a snippet:
World supposedly 20% bigger than Skyrim's, says development team. [Tentative, obviously] 30-40 minutes to cross world on Horseback New streaming technology (CDRED Engine 3) Geralt's Memory is restored No chapters/acts Dude is fucking DONE fighting for everyone else Everything from solving MYSTERIES to slaying monsters Coming out on "all top-of-the-line" consoles - I'd say that confirms next-gen is in.
He/she has updated the thread with more interesting information concerning the narrative structure, monster hunting, combat, and more. Enjoy!

I'll try and keep the thread up to date as more details are released. Obviously, since the release date is very far away, I might become a little tardy. You'll have to excuse me if I do.
The witcher 2 was so great but the last chapter was so rushed! I was all excited in the other chapters but then the last chapter came and wrapped up the story so so abruptly I was left disheartened, reminds me of the way I felt about the mass effect 3 ending
Fuck yeah, but 2014 so far away. Well at least I'l have time to replay W2, ended up getting both gog.com and steam copies of that, don't ask why.
I do wonder how the open world ends up, considering the first two games were pretty linear after all.

I'm pretty neutral about that, neither loved or hated it. I don't think there was anything too badly wrong with it though.

Gets a bit tiring drudging through all that political bullshit. Guess what humanoids, you're all cunts.
I really enjoyed seeing how everyone was trying to screw everyone else. Made the plot feel close to the real world. I just hope they will put slightly more emphasis on inventory management. Or maybe I should stop hoarding all the stuff I find, just in case I might need it.
I'm not sure how I feel about the removal of scripted bosses. Made them feel epic and real. I don't want to have to chop a thing 20 times your size to death.

i bet there will still be epic huge scripted fights in the main story
I like the ideas, I like how they're taking the whole witcher 2 world to a different type of game concept, because the world of this series is kinda brutal and I love that, it's not your standard fantasy world.
Awesome!
I also like that it's an open world game but you're still Geralt, playing as a specific, well known character you're already familiar with, who has a deep storyline behind him, a love interest, personal motivations, etc. I like it more that the typical de-personalized style of most open world RPGs, in which the character takes a backseat role to the world itself, like Skyrim, which is a great game by the way, but this approach is going to give TW3 a differentiating feel from other open world game series.
CD Projekt Red probably the only developer who still does shit like it should be done. I'm still surprised by the fact that they released the witcher 2:enhanced edition basically for free, while it added a shitton of new stuff(something other companies like EA etc would probably release as a DLC)
Witcher is awesome. But I've always been slightly puzzled, the books are before the games is the story in the games also the work of the guy who wrote the books or what?
Either way I'm glad this is in the works, open world- style seems quite the undertaking but if anyone can do it correctly its CD Projekt Red!

From what i read in the books (only read a couple) they are from before Witcher 1 where he looses his memory.
