if they are I'd imagine you'd be able to get some serious lift if you held onto both ends of the arch. It might even lift you off the ground.. have you ever tried?

It might even lift you off the ground.. have you ever tried? From http://www.cockeyed.com/science/helium/helium.shtml A typical helium-filled balloon on a ribbon can lift 4.8 grams. How many balloons would be required to lift even a 50 kg person (light person)? 4.8 g = 0.0048 kg 50 kg / 0.0048 kg/balloon = 10,416 balloons I estimate barely 150 balloons in the picture.

Nice estimate about 200 balloons were used in this arch. and Yes I did hold booth ends, no you can not get any lift from it, well just your arms.

The air filled bottoms do not add or take away anything when building an arch. We could have gone further up with air as well.
