Zinédine Yazid Zidane 33 years FIFA Best player of the Year: 1998, 2000, 2003 France Football Golden Ball: 1998
Zidane is often considered to be the best footballer in the world still playing, and perhaps one of the most talented players of all time. An elegant dribbler of the ball, Zidane's amazing vision and passing ability as a midfielder has earned him the nickname of 'genius' and 'magician' by the world's sport media (Luis Omar Tapia from ESPN calls him 'Harry Potter' in reverence of his 'magical' abilities). Zidane's perfect balance make him one of the game's finest artists and the natural successor of France's Michel Platini. In my opinion, Zizou is way better than Platini.
Zidane was a member of the French football team in 1998 World Cup, which France won, scoring two headed goals in the final against Brazil. Two years later, he led his country to a second major championship, winning Euro 2000. He has been elected three times as FIFA World Player of the Year (1998, 2000, 2003).
In 2001 Zidane transferred from Italian team Juventus to Spanish club side Real Madrid on a four-year contract. The transfer fee was £47 million(approx. $66 million US, €76million), making him the most expensive player in football history.
While Zidane initially took a while to settle in among his fellow 'Galacticos' at Madrid like Raul, Luis Figo and Roberto Carlos, he was undoubtedly the biggest name of the lot by reputation alone, and as the season progressed his form just got better, culminating in him helping Madrid and scoring the winning goal with a fantastic volley in a 2-1 win over the German team Bayer Leverkusen in the 2001-2002 Champions League Final.
Injuries prevented him from performing at his best in the 2002 World Cup. France's defence of their trophy was one of the most unsuccessful in World Cup history; the team was eliminated in the First Round without scoring a single goal. Without Zidane's creativity and vision France looked lost. Zidane rushed back from his injury in time to play in France's last game, but to anyone who had ever previously watched him perform, it was apparent that he was just not himself.
After France's faillure at Euro 2004, Zidane retired himself internationally speaking, saying he would not dress the french blue uniform again. One year after, with his nation having problems to qualify to the World Cup, he came back on his decision. He is once again the captain of the "bleus". Let's see what kind of magic will Harry Potter show us at the germany cup, we all want to see it
Zidane is one of my favourite players, and this video really shows the reason. He is just awesome, with such an elegant technique, it seems like to do what he does is the easiest thing on earth. Really amazing and beautiful to watch, pure art.

Ps. I was really lazy this time, so I pretty much copy pasted some parts of the article at wikipedia.org and wrote some little parts at the end of the text.

I love Zizou.
I remember the '98 World Cup Final vs. Brazil as if it was yesterday

thnx again Raidern as always~
Watching him is like watching ballet- his composure, balance, finesse and technique is unrivalled. One of the few legends that helped to retain the elegance in the beautiful game.

I had no idea Zidane scored this many great goals.. both with his left and right foot. truely amazing. the left-footed volley near the end is sick.
p.s. whose that hairy guy that made his appearance in a couple shots?

omfg his control with his heel is so good.. like the corner vs croatia in the EC.. and his balance and ability to see teammates and the way he takes down long passes and shots
only slight weakness is speed

You should do one about henry, i've only watched him play two matches (Real Madrid ones) and he seems to be amazing. He also makes things look easy with those long lengs.
The volley of the champions league final is crazy. I was watching the game and I was simply amazed, even tho I support Barça I like a spanish team to win.

£47 million(approx. $66 million US, €76million)
Should be:
£ 47.000.000 $ 81.469.982 (and 58 cents but who cares) € 68.114.056 (and 62 cents)
Was kind of surprised when I saw that you mentioned less in USD than EUR.
And yes, Zizu is the best of the best of the best and in my personal opinion he's the most complete football player ever.

henry would also be appreciated. :D

He is just incredible. Is the best football player I have had the opportunity to watch in my entire life. The volley is the 2-1 against Leverkusen on a Champions League Final, so it is even more incredible. And yes, he scores with both legs and has an incredible strong shoot wich makes so damn fast. And the control of the ball is just awesome, he dribbles defenders 10 years younger than him and 2x faster, just :O
The press published once that he has a disease that makes him get tired after a couple of races, some muscular disease or something, that's why he sweats like he does (if you watch him during a match you will understand what I'm saying). The newspaper had to regret his words because Zidane got very angry.
Maradona said about him that not ever him nor Pele had that ball control he has, and if Zidane wasn't so tall he will be faster and probably had being better than both of them.
When I talk about him I call him "god Zizou", so I'm not objective here

truly one of the all time football greats, although he has lost quite a bit of his previously dominating abilities as of late it seems. at the peak of his powers he was in a diferent league compared to others. thanks alot

I was 100% surprised too hehe, but thats the values the page had, and that's values of 2001, so I had no idea if at that time, dollar had more valour than euro, so I had to trust the site
and Indeed, I agree with eri when he says "he is the best player of the last decade". His style is so beautiful , I don't like him very much tho, you all prolly know the reason -_-

Great video. Keep up the good job with those threads.
Agreed with pretty much everything that's been said here. Also, he's always sounded like a nice and extremely humble guy.
More than anyone, I'd say that he's a very confidence-based player. If he lacks confidence he can play far below his real level.
