Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (watched in German): In every respect inferior to the Gene Wilder film. Johnny Depp´s Wonka tries to establish some degree of queerness, but it just doesn´t work due to its lack of psychological realism, wit and fun. The Importance of Being Ernest (2002): This is a very fun adaptation of Wilde´s play, about as much fun as the play itself. They missed out on some neat jokes in the play, but they also added a couple of funny things (Judi Dench´s comment about the romanticism of Miss Prism´s manuscripts for one), really disappointed at the ending, it kind of made a joke of the moral theme behind the entire play, which was going too far. Der Untergang (watched in German): Quite frankly, I got bored during this movie. Of course I am quite biased in that I have read about half a dozen accounts of Hitler´s final days, including both the books this movie was supposed to be based off of, so every line in the movie became like a cliché to me. I think for overall drama the accounts of books are actually more effective than the movie re-enactment. In fact I felt that this was nothing but an re-enactment of a book. Fantastic Four: This is one of the worst comic adaptations I have yet seen. I used to be an avid reader of the Fantastic Four, and they did everything wrong in this movie. Of course no 2 hour movie can cover the 40 year history of any comic book character, but in films like Spider-man they have added enough independent material to Spidey´s character that he becomes a believable and likable character on screen. The Fantastic Four´s plot and character innovations all stink, are vastly inferior to their comic counterparts and they completely destroy one of my favourite comic characters: Dr. Doom. The last act alone is unforgivable. Star Wars Episode 3 (watched in Chinese): Was also an avid Star Wars reader/viewer a few years back but there is no way I am going to defend this film from all its righteous criticism. This film lacked any believability whatsoever, and I´m going to leave it at that. Joan of Arcadia Season 1 (on DVD): Twenty-three episodes and I went on a happy Joan-a-thon and didn´t come out of my room for two days. I am throughly convinced that this series was one of the superior specimens of television to be found in the history of modern television, making it all the more tragic it was cancelled. It was fun, funny, intelligent, creative, and quite often makes important moral statements that would greatly benefit society today. Has definitely had an impact on the way I think about life. Tristan und Isolde (German, Opera): I´ve already reviewed this filmed opera on my blog. Meier´s vocal performance was the good part about this movie. The staging, the acting, the modernization of THE romantic opera were all pathetic or laughable. Wagner´s drama carries so much power when one listens to it on CD, but its translation to stage in this instance has sadly produced an example of how opera should not be experienced.

Band of Brother (TV series) - Second time through the series. Good stuff. Garden State - Odd movie. Better than I anticipated. It definately had some very funny moments though. Not feeling particularly wordy this morning....

Theme: Sci-fi Action. HORRIBLE! This is most probably the dumbest and high-budget film I have seen so far. Seriously, ABSOLUTELY everything in this film is predictable (except the major plot twist which is far too ridiculous and stupid for you to anicipate it). Basically the movie is like a huge US Army Ad, with 95% of it being CG special effects. Don't watch this film unless you are 12-. The Island Theme: Same Not exactly awesome, but quite decent. It is just what you expect from the big summer hollywood blockbusters: the plot is not smart but still quite dynamic. There's loads of action with some nice special effects so I think it's worth watching if you're into this genre. What I didn't like was the Chrysler sponsorship (all the cops and the fucking agents ride 300Cs what doesn't make any sense at all)

But anyhoo Wedding Crashers, Comedy: I actually quite enjoyed this. It's about 2 guys who "crash" weddings to pick up women, they have many funny adventures and fall in love yada yada yada. Ending was a bit cliched and predictable, but like American Pie the rest of the movie makes up for the lesser ending. Alexander, Ass-Horrible: Wow. Definitely up there with my worst ever movies. I hired it after work on Friday, fell asleep watching it, tryed to watch the rest of it again the next morning, and fell asleep again. Who knows WTF it was about, but it gave no credence to life of one of the most powerful humans to ever live. AvP, sci-fi/action: Medicore movie, but it gets a pass mark for the fancy special effects. Not much of a story, Aliens fighting Predators with humans caught in the middle. Collateral, Thriller: If you haven't seen this yet, see it. Great movie. Tom Cruise is actually GOOD as a hired assassin (there's something I thought I'd never say ). Basically Jamie Foxx is a cab driver who is forced into driving Tom Cruise around whilst he bumps off witnesses who are soon to testify against some drug boss. Great atmosphere and action. Really good considering the crap Hollywood pumps out these days. That's all I can remember for now :p

Theme: Generic Comic Book Adaptation Hollywood Money-making trash shitcrapgay Avoid at pretty much all costs, unless some guy threatens to castrate you if you dont see it. Action is mediocre, characters are as flat as the acting and not enough Jessia Alba nakedness. Lost in Translation Theme: The greatest film of all time. I saw this yesterday for the nine billion sixty thousand eight hundred and fourth time in my life. Seriously, no other form of media will ever touch me as profoundly as this film. Please go enlighten yourself and see it, although it does only seem to appeal to a certain group of people.

Theme: Smart, resourceful and uncommonly devoted seasoned publicist Eli Wurman has smoothly managed the public lives of the rich, the famous and the incredibly powerful throughout his long career. There has never been a crisis he couldn't handle--until now. Cary Launer is a famous actor--he's as good at manipulating and controlling those around him as he is at giving award-winning performances. Yet Launer is in trouble over a young starlet, Jilli, and enlists Eli to discreetly escort her out of his life. It seems just one more celebrity baby-sitting job, until they arrive at an after-hours party where Eli experiences a shock that will change his life forever. The crime he's witnessed involves the most powerful and influential people in the country. Starring: Al Pacino It wasn't bad. Different.

snatch great movie, really really nice plot a boxing promoter and his not too smart partner lose their boxer, who was supposed to get ko'ed in 4th round of a match. they need someone to replace the boxer and get a gipsy - mikey. the other part of the plot tells us a story of a really really big diamond, who often changes it's owners. the ending of the movie is really nice IMO does any of you know similar movies?

Review: Visitor Q has to be one of the most interesting films I have seen in a long time. This movie focuses on the topic of various social taboos such as: drug-use, incest or prostitution but these are only the tip of the iceberg. You'll probably be blinking in disbelief for the first 10 minutes of the movie, you'll see many things on screen that would have never imaged ever being shown in a movie. The movie is about a family with some seriously messed up issues. That is where the social taboo's come into play. Visitor Q reminded me a little bit about an American movie called Happiness but unlike this movie Visitor Q seems to present these horrible topics with a humorous undertone. Soon as the initial uneasiness wears off you'll be laughing at some of the things happening in the movie, I am serious

Sin City Pretty good. I liked the visual style they went with, normally I have such a hard time watching pure black/white movies, but with the bit of color they did have made it seem perfect. There were some parts I was laughing, but probably shouldn't have been. Versus This is a weird movie. If I were to put it in a theme it would be something like Action/Zombie/Comedy, seriously there were parts I was laughing so hard and I didn't know what the hell was going on. It was an ok movie up until the point the zombies showed up, then I had no idea what the hell was happening. Some ok scenes, but for the most part I found myself bored with it. Berserk Episodes 1-25 I've been a fan of the series since before I watched this(it's my second time watching it all), all the way back to the Dreamcast game. Basically you take awesome hack and slash, buckets of blood, and a pretty good story. I can't really say anything past that. Gundam Seed Episodes 1-50 Gundam is probably my favorite series ever and Seed just makes me love it even more. My second time watching it all the way through. Once again, I can't really go into too much depth here. I also have a rented copy of Lost In Translation, now that someone has said it was good, I will be sure to watch it.

Genre: Comedy / Drama This is an incredible movie about the story of a young kid who gets an incredible break as a journalist in the 70's rock scene (in America). He tours with a little known band (in the beginning) writing a piece for Rolling Stone. As they tour the band becomes bigger and bigger and a ton of absolutley incredible things happen. Excellent movie. The Jacket - Genre: Drama This movie is pretty wierd. Basically some guy gets accused of killing a police officer, but they decide he's crazy and so they put him in an insane asylum. The doctor there is placing some of his patients into drawrs while loaded up with morphine. The main character discovers he travels to the year 2007 when he's in there and learns some interesting stuff. Very odd.
