It generated quite a buzz when we announced SC2ProMod on April 1st and asked, what you, the community, thought about it. Unfortunately, and surprising to us, the feedback has been overwhelmingly negative. As a consequence to that I have to inform you that all work on SC2ProMod has been discontinued effective April 2nd. We listen.

Not having played the Beta yet (boo no beta key) I can't guarantee that this is a surefire fix to all of SC2's problems. But being an American, I absolutely see the necessity in finding a way to nerf those cheesy european strats we see plaguing the beta.

You guys put a ton of work into making a perfectly good new game into SC:BW. If progamers want to play BW why not just play BW instead of tearing up the SC2 community and forcing anyone that wants to be competitive to play your mod. I personally am really dissapointed with the TL community for not having enough faith in Blizzard to make a game that was good for all. I'm not saying that there arent problems with SC2- but it is still in the Beta! How can you say the game isn't ready for pro play when its not even ready to be released? As for specific things I'm not thrilled about:

I am not in any way a progammer, but I can still appreciate this mod! The imbalances in SCII was simply not fun. I always played Terran but it felt wrong to play the team with an advantage over everyone else, if I won people just said that my race was OP and if I lost I sucked.
With this mod I really hope that I will be able to outplay my friends by skill and high APM instead of choosing the right tech in the first few minutes.

I really hope this is an early April Fools joke. I think this is the most useless thing ever and I find it funny and sad that such a professional eSports community like the SC one has stooped down to the level of the Super Smash Bros. competitive community. Instead of adapting to change like most professionals, they bitch and moan about how the sequel is not like it's predecessor. Obviously, it's going to be different. Blizzard is not retarded and doesn't want to make the same game twice with added features. I used to think Team Liquid was respectable but after this, how can I? You talk about how SC2 doesn't require much skill when it basically relies on micro, which is the backbone of competitive SC. StarCraft, was first and foremost, an RTS and a eSports game second. Emphasis on STRATEGY. Micro was not something that required skill, just lots of practice. Sadly, the focus of the game turned to micro instead of strategy, making SC a contest of who has the fastest fingers. The sad thing about most of the eSports community is that most of you guys are afraid of change. You play a game for a long time and then complain when the sequel is different. You act as if the sequel cannot have high level play.
Please, continue making this mod so the REAL PROFESSIONALS who can adapt to change can play SC2 without baddies like you. I'd like the community to be split between people who are good and people who have an arbitrary view of what is considered good.

These changes are great, 24 unit groups is solid. I always felt 12 units was a bit unfair to Zerg. 1 Geyser could be trouble if Bliz balanced unit costs around 2 Geysers, otherwise good.

Marauder out of Fac and Hellion out of Rax is weird, I don't like this at all. I see where you were going with the design though which is good, but this is just odd. You guys think about bringing the buffed Firebat back? The graphic was super cool.

While the interface changes are great and bring back some main skill aspects, my worry is that some of the unit changes seem to be designed around being able to do SCBW builds and timings in SC2, which is neat but not as interesting as discovering new builds and timings. It looks like some of the unit changes make the mod more of a SC2->BW conversion then a Pro adaptation.
The marauder 'spider mine' ability is a key example.
I want this game to be good, but it should also be different then BW, otherwise you may as well make a BW graphics update instead.

Simple community made "balance patches" have destroyed games in the past. You are making a promod. This "betterment of ESPORTS" is no excuse to rip apart a game. It seems ESPORTS and good game design are now conflicting ideas.
I can tell a lot of thought went into the changes, but I still don't see the appeal of playing this mod over Brood War.

I think that you are trying to make sc1 again. I for one do not need a new copy of sc1, i've got my own right here. Even though balance might be required in sc2 i don't think that turning it into a sc1 copy is the option. Thor=Goliath? Lurkers back? Bad pathing for stalkers and marauders? Don't try to balance by transforming it into a copy of a balanced game, seriously! And the skill you keep talking about is APM, automining off, less control groups, that all means more APM required. I think that is a bad measure for skill. So with all due respect to your work, i think that it is WAY to early in the BETA to even talk about the game not being balanced, or even esports material. There have already been many tournaments (and some pretty sick ones for that matter) and the game might do just fine. And even though there is a lot of one-basing you keep acting like this is a bad thing because it's not sc1. And micro and army controlled IS required if you and your opponent have equal army sizes. As for unit composition that makes you lose... SCOUT. Scouting is more important in sc2 than sc1. You should see his army composition way before he has enough to really stomp on you.

IMO I think you guys are way in over your head and need to let blizzard do their job, the game is still in early beta! I understand what you are trying to do but i can only see much failure in this. Your basically trying to turn sc2 into BW and ITS NOT.. get over it ffs. I don't think this will ever reach tournament level and will only be taken serious by your select TL few and other players trying for shits and giggles. Why not just make suggestions on the blizzard feedback forums? (For example i like the idea of the new t3 infestor!). Most other things just shits broodwar all over the game.. I don't like this idea. While some changes I agree with, this is not your game to alter. You are effectively going to be splitting the community, as the vast majority of players will be playing regular Starcraft 2. Things such as unit removal / addition, tech tree changes, unit stat changes... the majority of players will find that the game is drastically changed. Casual observers will be surprised / confused when watching pro games, and as such, may not watch as it is not the true version of the game they are a fan of.

This is an awesome idea and I'm impressed by the changes that you guys were able to make, but it seems like your product is just as gimmicky, the only difference is the rollback to broodwar in almost every sense, it's just hypocritical and immature.
One geyser? Does it mine faster than one normal SC2 geyser? What is the reason for this other than "Broodwar was like this, so SC2 must be like this as well"? There is no reason to do this unless you want the trade-off between mining more gas and mining more minerals to be different, or you want anything that requires gas to be a hero unit that you only get one of.
You even tried to emulate SC1's archaic pathing algorithm? why? Although SC2's pathing is bad, (too closely packed, physics based, uses naive algorithms to navigate around other units), it's a great improvement on the original.
The observer change... ...really? I mean, ok, ok, we love brood war, I get it. But if you want cute things like that in SC2, the least you could do is get original, like you did with the xel naga tower change and high-ground change.
You also re-purposed the macromechanics to enforce multi-base play. This is exactly the kind of forced metagame that I thought you were trying to avoid.. This is actually introducing needless complexity into SC2 as well. Why not just put gold minerals at every natural and remove the macro abilities all together? It's the same thing.
All in all, a lot of the changes you made are really cool, like highground advantage, animation changes, autosurround, muta stack, b.net changes, complete disregard for production quality as long as it's balanced and fun, etc etc.

Have you considered that an evolution to a complex and beautiful multi-base metagame in SC2 might take more than a year to develop? Hi. I just wanted to tell you that this is one of the best thing ever happen for Starcraft II. On Iccup I am a D- player but when I play on SC2 I feel like I am a S Class player. I knew from then that something is wrong with SC2 and that it needs a major overhaul. There was some stuff I did not like right away. All of the auto mining and the attack move rely point and the smartcasting can make noobs be like pros. When I watch SC2 matches I Feel like I am watching the same thing over and over again. There is no wide variety of strategy that I thought that would exist. The thing I hated the most was that the game seem to be around counters. THAT IS STUPID. SC1 was not like it why does SC2 have to be. Strategy games with counter is like other generic strategy. I have to say I can not wait for future update of this mod. I see it this way, if a person is bad at a sport, they either practice and get better or find a new sport. They don't change the rules of the sport to fit their play style.

I am by no means a progamer and I'm not even in the beta right now. However I have been following it alot through streams and replays. This all just seems way too soon. I mean it is still in beta... Give it a chance. It just seems like you guys are trying to turn it into brood war V2.0. Things like taking out automining doesn't make sense to me. You may all disagree with me but I dont think APM should play much of a factor in the game. It should be about strategy, timing, positioning. You are trying to make it into an eSport which is awesome and I hope it happens, right now this just seems like people trying to make a mod so that SC1 players are really good at SC2 rather than trying to adapt to SC2.

Just an idea for casting spells:
In the original SC, after selecting a spell you cast, you get a cursor to to select the center of the spell.
This is changed in SC2.
When you select a spell to cast in SC2, you have an circle that displays which units will be affected.
I feel that the SC's implementation promotes more skill, since players must familiarize themselves with how large the radius a certain spell would be.

The mod looks great! However, I feel that it's missing one important thing: changes to the Colossus. It moves much too fast, and an attack with no travel time doesn't suit the unit well. Cliff walk should be removed from the unit, and the Thermal Lance attack should be replaced with a slow-moving Energy Ball that does splash damage. To compensate for removing the more powerful instant attack, the damage could be increased to 100, with an upgrade at the Robotics Bay to increase it to 125.
Also, just to keep Protoss players on their toes, the Energy Ball attack should miss and no no damage at all half of the time.

In my opinion I really dislike this move from teamliquid. I suppose something like that was bound to happen sooner or later but think about it, you are breaking up the community even more. Not only is the community already torn apart between BW and Sc2 now you are introducing this mod which in my opinon I really disagree with.

I don't think blizzard meant for this when they released the beta. I also see alot of anti-warcraft such as removing the mothership. As a loyal Starcraft player I find this mod to be quite exciting. Its good to know that the skills I have accumulated in all my years of playing Brood War will infact be used in Starcraft 2. I also believe that this mod will help the Starcraft community flourish by retaining a lot of traditional mechanics from the original game that only players of the original Starcraft would be familiar with.
Too soon. Let the game expand before doing this.

Implement area hotkeys please. I think it will be very difficult to play with no automine if you cannot use f2-4 (maybe even add f1) for area hotkeys. These are the binds I used for my CC in BW. Otherwise a control to cycle through the camera centering on CCs when you hit a hotkey containing your CC would be good.
Also for helion vs marauder why not just switch their attack animations? It seems awkward for a bio unit to come from the factory and vice versa.
Why change gas? Two gas allowed for more diverse build orders. Are you concerned about fast tech builds being difficult because they require 6 workers total on gas? Consider another solution like starting players off with 50 gas, or having a geyser be saturated by 2 workers.
Can you change geysers to give reduced gas when they run out instead of going completely dry, like in BW? In BW this was one of the things that pushed players towards actually using the higher tech units, they started to have higher gas income relative to minerals as the game went on. Now this is not the case and we stay on the same mineral heavy armies the whole game.
Are you going to consider changing the targetting AI? How do you feel about planetary fortress taunting units WoW style? Workers being targetted, etc?
What about changing collision sizes and/or opening up the maps more so we can actually spread out instead of always fighting in a chokepoint?
Consider changing the starting energy upgrades. Do you think it is balanced to warp-in a storm-ready Templar?
I haven't tested it thoroughly but it seems vision range may have been reduced from original BW. Could be my imagination but especially flying units, ghosts, and observers, don't seem as good of scouts as before.

Pros will go where the money is, and that will be where the viewers are.
You guys should think about how the grow the sport not how to make a small group of pro happy. An easier interface makes more time for crazy play. Adding extra options are cool but making the interface harder to increase base level APM is dumb.

I have followed the starcraft community for a little over 3 years now, and while I can understand why, from a nostalgia point of view this patch sounds like a good idea, however the features of this mod make it sound as if it is Starcraft 1.5. So many of the features are exactly as they were in BW...why not just rename fungal growth to plague, the Thor a goliath? I feel that not only will this divide the SC community, but it feels as if you are making a bastardized version of brood war. From a spectators point of view(sports are not just about the players) if I wanted to watch players play brood war I would rather watch the original, starcraft 2 does not need to emulate every feature of BW. I understand your love of the game has driven you to this, but please implement change in gradual amounts, because all these changes feel hollow to me. Thank you for your time.

This is the most amazing thing i've ever heard of since the game. I was very worried that this great game was going to end up failing in the face of its superior in skill requirement Starcraft Brood War. I want to express my thanks to everyone at Team Liquid for taking on this task and doing it for the community.
Any word if there can be a matchmaking/ladder system that applies to this in the same way that is intended in vanilla?
Also, it would be nice to see some cooperation from blizzard. Is there any hope that blizzard could just apply your changes as the default version of the game?

I think you should go back playing Brood War instead of trying to push your opinions this way. I hope that Blizzard will block this modification to spread out. There is no chance that it will be a platform for e-sports tournaments. You would not do such modifications to Brood War, so leave StarCraft 2 as it is.

I disagree with this. Just because the game doesn't hold the same gameplay as broodwar doesn't mean you should try and bring back broodwar and split the competitive play in starcraft 2. I've beaten NoNy in sc2 and he asked me questions like, "how much do those units cost?." He clearly has little or no experience playing sc2 and his opinion is not viable and completely biased towards broodwar. Also, I thought insulting wc3 wasn't tolerated on teamliquid forums?
i got really excited when i saw this mod, and can´t wait for an actual image of the lurker we´ll just have to try it out and see what works better

This Mod will lift SC 2 in another level were it should be ! atm game is little lack.. Maybe blizz wanted to be lick that little low macro so more ppl can play it and feel good with all that easy macro added in sc 2.

From reading the features, It seems like the SC2ProMod is just steps at making SC2 into SC:BW. I assume blizzard wanted to create a game that would be similar to SC as it is now, but also different. But what SC2ProMod seem to do is just bring SC:BW units to SC2. Like Lurkers, Spidermines, and goliaths.

oops,this mod is just just an other sc expansion set, or sc in 3D, not sc2. so this mod is not a upgrade of sc2, it's back. from this mod, i see all of you need is sc, not sc2.

Is there any way to somehow jury rig map location shortcuts back into the game (i.e. I hit F2 to center view on my CC)? I feel like this would greatly introduce the BW feel back into the game, as well as make manual mining more manageable.
