Sorry if this is in wrong forum, I couldn't decide on general/broodwar.
Well anyways, like it says, I'm headed to Korea. Seems like big news when a one of us liquidians goes eh? Thing is I'm alot younger than alot of people here, only 15 T_T.
I'm korean so it'll be more personal experience for me, last time I went was in '98 or so. I've been 5 times before so it's not completely new.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was [ to the people that have been there recently ] what's it like? I don't really know what to expect. I have little ideas of what I WANT to expect like Starcraft still being a big explosion over there. But I know that era has passed, and people play Lineage 2 and Diablo. I asked a few friends who went last summer and they said in each PC Baang only about 3-5 people play Starcraft now. To this I said oh well, I'll watch it on T.V. [ Btw, anyone know the channels? Lolz. ]
Is there alot of merchandise? I'll be sure to buy a box of that infamous Boxer cereal if I see it.
Just wondering what it's like so I won't be disappointed >=\
Oh yeah, I'm leaving Monday [ Eastern U.S. ] at like 5:00 AM

I looked into going, I'd like to visit as well. Then I looked at the cost of flights. 5,000 canadian round trip It would be far more economically feasible for me to go there and attempt to live before giving up and offing myself

WHY IS EVERYBODY GOING TO KOREA EXCEPT ME!!!

Oh yeah, I'm leaving Monday [ Eastern U.S. ] at like 5:00 AM Urm :O I think that would depend on the PC Bang -_-? Last time I asked a friend of mine about that he said '70% starcraft' o_O Was a kinda big pc bang, I think 200 comps -_-~ I'll ask a friend of mine who's a pc bang owner though +_+~
EDIT: He said Lineage II, Lineage and Starcraft are the most popular games in his pc bang O.o
He said that people play lineage a lot but they also play starcraft ("Lineage = Meal, Starcraft = snack").
ZiBek says: right ZiBek says: mostly korean people ZiBek says: play ST ZiBek says: but... not only ST ZiBek says: Someone only play ST ZiBek says: but... a little

Yeah, I'll be staying in Seoul, I think. So most likely a big PC Baang.

StarCraft is stil huge in South Korea. Ratings for TV games are still increasing.

I'm going this Summer, how much is 5,000 Canadian? My flight costs roughly 1000 USD, don't know if that's equivalent or not.

It's big enough in Korea that I don't think you'll be sorely disappointed. Umm... The channels are: Ongamenet, MBCGame, iTV, GameTV(?). If you are close to the city and not in a suburb, then take the subway to the Coex mall and go to the pc bang there on Friday nights to watch the OSL. That's what I did as much as I could when I was in Seoul in 2001 or '02 (I don't feel like couting my summers ago).

That's awesome Klogon I'll try to watch all of them, even though I had a little doubt about the Coex mall thing if you say you went 2 years ago. Anyway, thanks for all the replies people.

The thing u can do is go to the coex mall(take the subway, line 2: samsung) and go to the mega studio(right next to the movie complex) and catch some ongamenet games live, or go to the sejoong game world and watch mbcgame games live. currently, i don't see many starcraft items u can really get in korea other than the boxer dvd, or some ogn shirts(but i don't know if they still have them) the pc bangs or the pc rooms i've recently been to didn't have people playing starcraft, but lots of cs and lineage2.
