- There is a Tauren Marine that runs into an outhouse in Zero Hour, which then blasts off like a rocket when you right-click it. - That rocket-outhouse can be seen flying in space in the background of Ghost of a Chance. - There is a mini-Diablo hidden in The Devil's Playground. that's all I've seen so far besides the Metroid and stuff that's already been mentioned

before the bottom left Zerg base in the water is a Marine frozen in ice? * On the mission "Zero Hour," where you wait 20 minutes for evacuation, search the top of the map, just above the left vespene geyser. Here you can find a Tauren Space Marine. He will enter an outhouse -- if you click it 3 times it will shoot into space, unlocking that level's secret. * On the mission "Welcome to the Jungle," you can find a Murloc Marine near the left edge of the map. He's slightly north of your base. He is standing on a cliff edge, surrounded by trees. * During the mission "Piercing the Shroud," in the loading bay before the room with the Brutalisk, go outside through the door and follow the rock ledge upwards. A large area of the map will be suddenly revealed, and you will find a Murloc Marine. Secret mission + Show Spoiler + * Inside the sercret mission unlocked via destroying the Science Facility on Korhol (which can be unlocked in replays btw), send a unit as far as you can at the drop point when you get reinforcements (outside, not entering the brutalisk room first). Here you can see a Murloc Marine just minding it's own business on a nearby asteroid.

The feat of strength 'You're so Crazy' is probably in reference to the GnR song You're Crazy(due to the mission, its achievements and the fact its also on the appetite for destruction album). Funny little things they added ^^

There's another reference to staff death in this... a large sign that says "$70,000 REWARD Help us find Dave Berggren's killer! http://www.starcraft2.com It also shows a "suspect composite" with a picture of I don't know who. the doodad's name is Billboard Tall (Variation 4) On August 08 2010 10:58 Shade692003 wrote: Some easter eggs I just noticed in the Cutthroat mission... -Frozen dude in Starwars (I think) -Probably a Blizzard employee who put his face on a model (like Samwise and the kobold from wc3) -Blizzard books Nice find. I don't really see the carbonite thing though, probably a bad picture. Edit: I just happened to find the doodad in the editor. It's called "Carbon Marine Block". The "sword in the stone" is called "tombstone DLH" and it says "RIP D.L.H." on the plaque. I just found another easter egg now too, although it's really small and hardly worth mentioning (things like iCruiser and iPistol aren't even easter eggs). In the map editor, the "dumpster" doodad has a sticker on it that says "alliance" with the WoW lion icon. Another is "Deadman's Port Spaceship Junk Pile", which has a GIANT predator unit junked, as well as a USS Enterprise (from star trek)

Not sure if this can be really counted as a reference but in the mission where you have to defend your base at night and kill infested buildings by day later in the mission while your base is under attack, Tychus says "You know, I think I saw this in a movie once." possible reference to zombie apocalypse movies which the mission is a parody of.

Horace Warfield is pronounced exactly the same as "Horus", the Egyptian Falcon God. Horus served many functions in the Egyptian pantheon, most notably being the god of the Sky, god of War and god of Protection. Also the Terran Insignia resembles a falcon. Even a bit further removed (I'm not sure if Blizz reads Wilbur Smith novels!) but the "Warlock" (Warfield??) series of books has the main character Taita using a hawk with a broken wing as his sigil/seal. Warfield loses a limb in the final missions, might be a reference even if its very obscure.

"Żywią y bronią" (with y, because that was proper spelling in XVIII century.) which means "They feed and protect") is a Kosciusko's (Polish and American general) slogan for peasants army who fought with military scythes. That slogan was also part of Polish money, before they changed it on the new in 1995 + Show Spoiler + I guess it's a wink to the polish community which was very active since first Starcraft II.

For clarification, its the smoker from Left for Dead I was totally wondering what that was. I found it through the editor, and was totally perplexed at what it was supposed to be. I never played left for dead, but the doodad/unit's name was smoker. I noticed very prominently was a cigar in his hand — at normal camera levels/zoom it looks like a prominent ring (at least to me), and I had to use some major zoom to see what it really was. Doesn't make much sense for a dead body to have a cig still in their hand, lol. "Sir, I just detected a massive energy influx in the stars energy readings, it's due to GO NOVA in a few hours!" Pretty standard way of describing a star exploding. "to nova" isn't quite right, so "to go nova" is the way it's used. The star goes nova, it went nova, they go nova. I don't think this is an easter egg, just a standard way of describing something exploding brightly. It's also mediocre dialogue writing, in this case. On August 08 2010 01:50 alsowikk wrote: Tycus says "time to kick ass and chew bubble gum!" which is a refference to duke nuke em. Technically, this is a reference to the movie "They Live" with Roddy Piper. My contribution to this thread upon my first playthrough: the red dancing hologram in the cantina is doing some of the Night Elf female dance from World of Warcraft. And I didn't see it mentioned here, but Swann and the armory seem to be references to Dwarf Fortress. Swann resembles a dwarf and works in Bay 12. There was some dialogue later on about how he hates caves and likes working with tools and weapons. One of the songs played on the jukebox in the cantina sounded like a re-worded version of "Freedom isn't Free" from "Team America". I went back and listened through again and couldn't find it. I might be imagining things (but it's more likely that Matt Stone and Trey Parker succeeded in creating the most generic-sounding country song ever). One of the tv ads called "Bubba's Gas n Grub" resembles the space diner from "Spaceballs". I'm not sure it's an easter egg, but I'll let you decide. The music in the Tychus/Raynor barfight cutscene is almost directly copied from an episode of "Firefly". Probably a homage or easter egg, considering the abundance of other "Firefly" references, but dangerously close to plagarism, and something that as a composer/musician I really hate to see. It isn't unusual in the business (and Blizzard composers have copied many obscure, but public domain, musical passages: Wagner's Die Walkure in D2X and a piano piece in WoW to name a couple). I'm about to play through the campaign again, so I'll let you know if I see anything that hasn't been mentioned here. Edit: Whoops, forgot one. "Ghostbusters" is referenced in the game quite a bit as has already been pointed out, but the Zeratul/Kerrigan fight has a similarity to the scene where Gozer emerges from the door and pets one of her dogs. This is mirrored at the end when Kerrigan pets one of her two remaining hydralisks. It's a very similar visual to my eyes.

Besides, Norse mythology is a very common source of naming themes, Stargate is just one example. Now, if there were references to Egyptian mythology along with the Norse one, I would be more inclined to believe the Stargate reference, but as it stands, there's nothing to prove it other than a common source.

The fact that StarCraft has even one thing on Stargate leads to the rational explanation that these terms were taken directly from Norse mythology, and not lifted from Stargate. (as is Asgard) Yea I do know that, but Loki is a character in stargate sg1 (an asgard.) and the asgard have a tendency to name their ships after ppl. The O'neil and the Daniel Jackson for example. And also as MisterD wrote, quite the "coincidence" with the wraiths lol, thats not a Stargate reference. SG and SC are both referencing Norse mythology, which is quite a bit older than both of them. Loki is the Norse god of mischief and chaos who resided in Asgard along with all the other gods. Many of the Terran units in SC2 are references to Norse mythology, such as the Thor, Viking, and Raven (The symbol of Odin, he always appears with two), the Odin in that same mission, and even the Hel's Angels mercenaries (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_(location). Because loki and the asgard from stargate is based on norse mythologi doesn't change the fact that the reference in starcraft2 is infact aimed towards the stargate series and not norse mythology though. That's like saying rory swann is a reference to germanic mythologies because he resembles a dwarf. Dude you're from Sweden.... I'm a huge Stargate fan, but referencing North Mythology has nothing to do with Stargate. It's just that the Asgard reuse the names all the time. Also what have dwarves to do with Germany? Oo

Oo Dude give the fella a break, from what's posted here I'd say his theory might as well be correct. Or maybe I missed the chapter in northern mythology where the Asgard aquired spaceships and used them to battle the wraith in their spaceships. Which did however happen in SG. Sure a lot of things in starcraft are based upon northern mythology but that doesn't mean that this particular mission can't be referenced towards Stargate. And about the dwarves, a quick google tells me that the dwarves supposibly originated from germanic mythologi.
