FORMAT
We're introducing a new format to shake things up. This tournament is online only and will feature two teams of three, the Tal'darim and the Templar. Tal'Darim Players: Harstem puCK ShoWTimE
The two teams will battle it out on a game board with maps that are either Protoss-themed already (Star Station, Prion Terraces, Habitation Station) or have been RESKINNED to make them Protoss-themed (Orbital, Dusk Towers, Ruins of Seras'. The middle of the board will aptly be Rak'shir, representing the same struggle between the two Protoss faction that can be found in the campaign.
CIVL WAR RULES:
Capital maps are the starting point for each team and are preset. The capital city map will be chosen by the teams each new day.
Capital Tiles BO5 - capital map (first map) can be resurrected in the BO5 from the defending team.
All Other Tiles BO3
All tiles will lead into loser's choice of the map pool provided for the tournament.
Players starts in their respective capitals. Each player will have: 1 MP - 1 Movement Point 1 AP - 1 Action Point
An 'action point' can be used for: capturing a point, attacking an opposing player, or recalling to their capital city (ends their turn even if MP is left). In the event of an attack, whichever player loses will be forced back to their capital city.
The start of the game will have a fog of war in effect until each player is revealed by their opponents. Once all players have been revealed, the fog of war is lifted.
Any non-conquered space (white space or opponent's space) must be conquered using 1 AP before players are allowed to advance - once conquered, teammates do not have to use their AP conquering it.
Only one player per tile is allowed. The EXCEPTION is the home base, which can house all three players of its team.
In the event of a defense on the capital, only ONE player may be chosen to defend, however if losing at match point the player defending can tag out with another player that is also in the capital if they choose.
Players can never claim a tile from defending, only attacking (or using an action point after moving to the tile).
Finally announcing the last COOL AS FUDGE part of this tournament! IN GAME SKINS
*(What should also be noted, is the skins can only be seen by observers, players in game will see normal PVP only)

We still have one more crazy announcement to make regarding this tournament (and in our opinion, it's the biggest, blow you away part yet). However, it does need to be said that we're testing this, and many of the things involved (Board game aspect, the to-be-announced-amazing-awesomesauce-thing, and even getting additional funds for the players) could go really well, or really wrong! We're just excited to try new things and shake it up :-)
I hope this will have lots games and not just end with 2 bo5's and 1 bo3 (I think that is the case if one player goes right through the middle and wins every match while the other stay in the back to not risk a fight^^) I'm cheering for Tal'Darim <3
I think if you have more mirror matchup tourneys in the future, it could be fun to make custom maps for them.
Say, if it's PvP like this one then you don't have to worry about lings so you can be much laxer with the "rules" about main ramps and nat chokes. You could have absolutely outrageous maps that wouldn't work under normal circumstances. Experience games that you could never see on normal maps.
I don't really get the format but I'm super hyped for this, reskinned maps are also super duper awesome I'm going to explode from hype. I'm going to watch how this fold out
Oh my, would someone really watch PvP voluntarily? The Disruptor era was really fun, but it seems to have kinda ended and the "who can make a marginally better mix of immortals and archons" game isn't very appealing. Honestly, the only way to make it interesting would be to bring some "imbalanced" maps (perfect for mirror) from WoL era without easy expansions. Otherwise, PvP has surpassed ZvZ in boringness, sadly. BTTV is great for having quirky tournaments, but when the "meat" of good games needs to be there as well.

Well tbh the teams seem quite even.
PtitDrogo and Harstem both had a peak where they won a DH but they dont show much consistency. Lilbow and Puck seem to have a similar level (probably Puck is playing better lately). Neeb and Showtime are the 2 best foreign protoss and they both seem to have a similar level aswell.
I have some concerns about the "balance" of the format. This isn't something that will break the format, or something that is a major concern.
Concern 1: I believe that the person who is "attacking" has a 'slight' advantage, because the person who is attacking is able to choose the opponent... and in essence is able to choose to attack a "weaker" opponent. The defending player does not have any sorts of advantage.
However, with dice rolls determining player order, IT IS POSSIBLE in which all Team A players will move first (making the first 3 moves), and Team B players move after. This means that Team A will have a slight advantage in the "board" control, due to RNG.
Concern 2: It is also possible that one player on one of the teams might be perceived as "too strong" or unbeatable. Hence the opposing team will move accordingly and try to avoid that player at all cost, causing the team with the strong player to have a huge advantage and freedom of the board to raid whatever space that player want. Wouldn't this make the format not entertaining (and basically one team to snowball to victory)?
Monday May 30th at 9 AM PDT (Local time: Monday, May 30 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)) we will have day 2 of the Civil War, playing approximately 2-4 hours/a team wins. See you all there!
The Civil War shirt campaign are live if you haven't seen! 50% of the profits from each shirt will go to their respective team's payout, regardless of tournament results. Support the players and get them some extra cash!
I dont' think it is that great that you have to respond within 30 seconds to take your prize, I usually cant see when the adbreaks end and there are some more bugs, like blackscreen after an ad etc.. I reinstalled adblock for this now and I'm not sure if I can overcome my weaker self again to turn it off :S
