Here are some interviews from your TSL Ro8 players.
Check back for more!
NEW! Brat_OK + Show Spoiler [Brat_OK] +Congratulations, you beat the Swedish player HayprO. Did you expect this to happen? Thanks. Yup, I expected 2-1, but wondered who win.
In the first game on Wuthering Heights, you want for an 8rax. Why did you think this would work against this particular opponent/on this particular map? Before my match vs HayprO I've played couple of games with my teammate ALF. And he wiped me off constantly. Thus I decided to cheese.
In the second game you openend 2 Barracks Academy into expansion. Why such an old school build? I don't know. It thought it's good.
In the fourth game you made cloaked wraiths to counter HayprO's carefully prepared Guardian build. You played impressively. Do you feel on top of your game? Third game was very nice. Zerg has spent too much Mutas on my Marines, that's why he lost the entire game.
Your next opponent will be MYM.Dreiven. What do you think of him? Do you think you will win? He raped both Ex and A2. I'm worse. That's why it is extremely difficult match for me.
What do you think about what happened in the rest of the Ro16 Matches? Are you surprised at certain results? I'm surprised with Dreiven's 2-0 score vs ZvP monster Mondragon. I also enjoyed Rondo's games.
Retired_Draco + Show Spoiler [Draco] +Congratulations on beating one of the strongest terrans outside of Korea. It seems you are not that rusty after all. Well considering the fact that my preparation was limited to one single game 30 minutes before the match I should agree. It's even more funny because I hadn't played even one game on Othello and Wuthering Heights before the match against Strelok but I still managed to win.
You won 2-0. Did the series go as expected? Personally I didn't make any expectations. I was chilled out and I didn't think about such a things.
Game 2 was very back and forth. In the end you won due to templar drops. I made few unwise decisions in the second game. I guess that I wouldn't win this game without these templars.
Your opponent in the next game will be MYM.White-Ra. Will your girlfriend allow you to prepare for this match? Might be hard with that.
What do you think of the other Round of 8 players? Personally I don't find any real surprises. In the next round I'm cheering for Dreiven since he is a good friend of mine.
MYM.White-Ra + Show Spoiler [MYM.White-Ra] +Congratulations on your win against Idra[Media]. This was one of the most anticipated matches in the Ro16. Yes, it was one of the most interesting matchups and I am glad I showed a good game.
In Game 1 you pressured Idra very well. I practiced many games with Strelok and know how I needed to play. But when I saw Idra not wall, I made a first zealot and made him big work^^
In Game 2 you went for 2 base Carriers. I was leading 1-0 and wanted to play some all-in tactic and choice fast cariers
Did you feel tired after you lost such a close Game 2? No. I was concentrating and was sure I would win the series.
In Game 3 you delayed your third base. I must make third base late because I needed a big army to play this tactic.
Your opponent in the Round of 8 will be the former pro-gamer Draco. Draco has good shape and many practice now, but PvP can be luck match up. Who choses the best strategy will win.
What do you think of the other Ro16 results? Good job Brat_Ok. He is back from the Army and shows how a Russian soldier can play^^
Excello.NonY + Show Spoiler [Excello.NonY] +Congratulations on advancing. Did you expect to beat ret 2-0? Thank you. I knew that winning the way I did was a possibility, and it was what I was hoping and planning for, but I wasn't wholeheartedly expecting it.
Your play seemed very solid and confident in both games. I was fortunate enough to become comfortable with some builds very quickly on these new maps. I had a lot of options floating in my head and chose to play the way I thought would best counter ret's style. From what I can tell, zerg players in general have not been so fortunate on Wuthering Heights, as there isn't even one build that is agreed upon as good. Whether it's really imbalanced, just not figured out yet, or simply on a bad P>Z streak to start it off is impossible to tell at this point.
Who did you practice with for your match against ret? Nobody in particular. I practiced in general on any map and any matchup just to keep my skills in shape and I watched a lot of VODs and replays and tested builds in single player and conducted "thought experiments" in order to decide my strategies.
Your next opponent will be ToT)Gosia(. Are you confident? I would feel absolutely confident of a win if I was playing him in some random showmatch or practice games. But since this is the Razer TSL, he must be greatly motivated to win this match and I think that can bring out another level of play. I've seen him play brilliantly before and if he can bring that play out when the pressure is on, then I'll be in for a real challenge. Still, I feel compelled to mimic Bisu, so I will predict a 3-0 or 3-1 win with confidence.
There were some surprises in the Round of 16. I can't be surprised by the results because I'm not fool enough to think that a tournament like this can be easily predicted. An argument can be made for every player.
Who are you cheering for in the Round of 8? I'm cheering for JF over Dinot. I'm cheering for Dreiven just because I'd love to see Dreiven vs JF. I'm of course hoping I advance, and I don't have a preference between Draco and White-Ra. I wouldn't mind PPPP semis.
ToT)GOsia( + Show Spoiler [ToT)GOsia(] +Congratulations on advancing. Who did you practice with for these games? I've played 2 zvp games with both Carlo and Dissy. Had to take a little break. In the latest events I was lacking at the creativity, and little breaks usually help me to improve that factor of my playstyle.
You won on the Protoss favored Wuthering Heights. Oh, I was just lucky. I dont really have any idea how I could've won that game. Game 2 was really close. Were you nervous during the tense moments? Nah not really, I just thought that there's gonna be the 3rd deciding game. The thing that I didn't have hydras range and any carapace upgrade for the whole game didn't help me to win that game. That's the other side of being not so active for a while.
Your next opponent will be another Protoss, Excello.NonY. He is the better player. I don't expect to come out at the top. I'll just try to do my best, but I dont think it'll be enough. Anyway from the Ro8 I'm the worst player. I just feel that I didnt deserve the place in the Ro8. There were a lot of better players that unfortunately had some bad coincidences that made them go down and they didn't advance after all.
What do you think of the other Ro16 results? I dont want to comment on that, I'm sorry.
Excello.IefNaij + Show Spoiler [Excello.IefNaij] +Congratulations on advancing. During the games you told ClouD you didn't expect to win.I knew we were both capable of winning and saying anything else would be a lie. But I am quite relieved after winning My strategy is to never be too confident, or else bad things will happen. You lost to DTs in Game 1. How did you feel during Game 2?Loss of confidence, no. Nervous, yes! Who wouldn't be ? being 0-1 in a Bo3 series that involves such a large prize pool. In Games 2 and 3, you used your reavers perfectly in combination with observers. Many fans think you have the best PvP of any foreigner.Definitely a lot of better players out there. PvP is quite BO oriented (therefore some luck involved), so anything can happen. Anyone in the top 16 is capable of taking games off any other person in the top 16. Your opponent next round will be MYM.DinOt. Are you confident you'll win?I watched DinOt's games vs Rondo, quite impressive actually. I will need to train hard to prepare for this match. What do you think of the other Ro16 results? Who are you cheering for in this next round? The series that was the most entertaining was Mondi vs Dreiven, both played excellently, but one had to fall. Sad to see Mondi go. Other than that, there were not any major surprises. And of couse, I will cheer for no one but myself in the next round
MYM.DinOt + Show Spoiler [MYM.DinOt] +Congratulations on advancing. Thanks to all of the players who helped me practice.
In Game 1 you attempted a hydralisk cannon break. Did you do this because of the map? Yes, when I trained this map I didn't get any win playing normal, so I tried an all-in, but I guess I lost too many hydras in the first battle.
In Game 2 you played a very defensive/harassing style. I made lurkers in game two. I turned into defensive mode because I lost an important fight, which defined who will exp and who won't.
Game 3 was very long and close. I wasn't too nervous, I played like that just to be safe, and I realized that I had won when he started to lose exps and stopped mining while he didn't make damage me, killing only new exps.
Your next opponent will be Excello.IefNaij. Are you confident? Now on anyone can win, the most concentrated and clever in the moment will win.
What do you think of the other Ro16 results? Dreiven impressed me, not for winning mondragon, but for playing really good. And Draco, beating top europeans even he was retired.
MYM.Dreiven + Show Spoiler [MYM.Dreiven] +You beat the tournament favorite! It's a great feeling to beat the ZvP king ! I played few games vs ret on wuthering I watched some of Mondi's replays.. I needed to prepare for his style which is very devastating (44-1 vs p is not that easy ) Mondragon did an interesting build in Game 1.I was expecting some ling + hydra and those mutas really suprised me.. I wasnt warmed-up so needed like 15minutes of game to get into my macro and micro Game 2 was very action packed. When did you realize you had won?I realized that I am gaining advantage when Mondi's drops began to making less and less damage and my army kept growing. Then when I took his expo on 8 o'clock I realized I had a chance to win this You're nicknamed the BBQ-toss now.Haha :D This nickname is really funny Im at BBQ very often so its kinda right nickname after all.. I really enjoying my new nick :D Your opponent in the next round will be RoX.BRAT_OK.PvT is hard match up and I didn't play that much on those maps.. Brat has strong TvP so I won't underestimate him.. I think I can take this but still I will play my best. What do you think of the other Ro16 results? Who are you cheering for?I'm cheering for Draco since he's my friend and really great starcraft player He can acomplish anything with just little of training.. I can say I was quite suprised that Haypro lost to Brat. I hope I won't finish like him :D
Some notes and observations from obs and staff: + Show Spoiler [Show] +- Does Draco really not practice at all? Maybe he is exaggerating.
- IefNaij said his heart was beating so fast when he was playing down 0-1.
- GOsia may not want to comment on the other Ro16 results because his clan member Mondragon lost in an upset.
- NonY's PvP is very strong, it is not surprising he wouldn't mind a PPPP semifinals.
- Rondo has had several entertaining 30+ minute PvZs, against Notforu and Xiaozi in the Ro32 as well as against DinOt in the Ro16.
- The later rounds of this tournament may be decided by who plays under pressure better, and so far it seems both BRAT and Dreiven are very unaffected by nerves.
- There are three Polish players alive in the Ro8, with the chance of a Poland vs Poland final.
- There are three MYM players in the Ro8, but the two Excello players are looking strong and favored to win in their matches.
- Dreiven's BBQ affected this tournament greatly. Without it, he'd have been switched with Kr in the brackets. Perhaps even the Squall-A2-Kr-Dreiven Ro32 group would have turned out differently.

Cool, love these interviews.
I have to disagree with JF when he says there are better PvP players then him out there.
|
Nice interviews, I really like NonY - he seems very serious about this. Draco on the other hand is sort of boring and it looks like he wants us to think he is a pro or something.

Yes, get the torrent, and then check the boxes to only download Dissy vs Dreiven ;p
You can do that with torrents - choose which files to get and which ones not to get.

oh, my bad thank you LR ^^;;

I dont believe Draco at all -.- I think he is quite bm here. " Sorry Strelok but i raped you without practising "

Me neither, he's good but i really doubt he could get this far without practising at all.

Very nice
Interviews with losers maybe? That would be interesting as well...

Draco is either a uber-gosu or full of shit. He's claims to not have practiced those maps and then he beats Strelok [who imho is kinda overated sometimes but he's no walkover] 2-0. Hmmmm.... gogoggo SUPER-UNDERATED White-Ra !
|
yeah, i dont beleive draco either... im sorry but u dont take on this type of competition without any prractice at all-_-;
what the post above said, either full of shit or uber-gosu, but if he was that gosu, he wouldnt have failed in korea -_______-;
|
Go Dinot!!!! he will win in de Ro8, the protoss player will fall.
Sorry for my english, i'm latino american
|
Wow, it's crazy that a BBQ is a major player in Dreiven > Mondragon. Maybe BBQ > Mondi?

Go BBQToss!!
Looked really impressive over Mondi...
Thanks again for the interviews players and TL, always an entertaining read! And somehow less bm now that certain players have been eliminated..

what the post above said, either full of shit or uber-gosu, but if he was that gosu, he wouldnt have failed in korea -_______-; Or maybe Korea skill level is just so high that even an uber-gosu like him couldn't make it in Korea. He did come closer than anyone else in the past 5 years though... making it to 2nd last round of Courage. No one else has gotten this close recently. Idra just got knocked out round 1 by his first opponent.
|
If anyone could do it, in this tournament, it'd be Draco, though. I mean come on, he unretires and out of nowhere got #1 on the ladder during the season, before a bunch of others overtook him...
|
of course its fishy but c`mon if Mondi was playing like he is talking in the interviews he surely wouldnt qualify for TSL :p
|
Like I would have at least one reason to lie. LOOOL. I don't give a damn what you think about my skills and it pisses me off when someone claims that I care enoguh to lie. There was an interview, there were questions so I made honest answers not like others who answer the way you like. If you don't want to see these "boring lies" I don't have to answer for the next interviews.

I don't think the problem is whether you lie or not, but you come off as an arrogant jerk both in your interview and in the quoted post, which is at least why I got annoyed as hell, can't really speak for others. Your "I'm better than you and I can shit on you if I like" attitude is so annoying to see/read..

you care enough to post and complain about it

A'ight, Draco's a good player and attitude is in the eye of the beholder. No need to pile onto him.
|

Arrogance doesn't suit you.
|
The thing is that you don't undurstand my attitude at all. That's not like I feel better than anyone here. I don't care if you say that I'm worse than all other players in TSL but I do care when someone says that I lie. I'm not going to spend my time for the interviews which after all will be judged as a lie. I was asked few questions in the interview and I honestly answered, also when I said that for me it was funny to win Strelok without any practice. Did you want me to lie and say that I had played for example 50 games before the match against him? That would show the "manner" in your opinnion?
I already said in one of the interviews that I don't participate in this tournament because I want to prove something. I play it only because of money. You and the whole tl.net community may hate me if you don't accept my honest answers and I won't care, not because I feel better than any of you but because I don't care anymore about anything related with StarCraft. That's why I don't see anymore arguments to still show the perfect public manner when some people calls me a "dick", "jerk" or whatever else (just an examples).
|
Thank you so much for the interviews. I couldn't hardly wait even this long to read them.
|
It's just that it's a little hard to believe that someone who's playing for a chance to win $5000 won't even practise once during the entire playoff.

he has no reason to lie -- him and rekrul are of the same blood - old school players need very little practice time.

Awesome interviews. Man, I'm more into this event than the OSL and MSL combined right now.

Brat_OK's interview is my favorite because its hilarious. His choice in words lol. What a comedian!
Before my match vs HayprO I've played couple of games with my teammate ALF. And he wiped me off constantly. Thus I decided to cheese.
He raped both Ex and A2. I'm worse. That's why it is extremely difficult match for me.
I don't know. It thought it's good.

Draco, keep up the honest interview. It's the total opposite of Mondragon which too many people like for some strange reason.

I think some of you guys are just misunderstanding draco. Can you say someone is acting wrongly if they're being honest? I know I don't know him at all, but really do you guys? Give people the benefit of a doubt and take them for their word. Getting upset over being called a liar is also very understandable.
and for me even if draco was a total asshole I wouldn't care, because I love watching great games of starcraft. And we wouldn't have the games to watch without the players playing them.

great interviews thanks hottie^^
Your next opponent will be Excello.IefNaij. Are you confident? Now on anyone can win, the most concentrated and clever in the moment will win.
this was my favorite response I think - So true, its all about who is in the zone at the moment in time..ro8 is gonna be great

I thought some of the comments early in this thread were a little unfair toward Draco after reading the interviews. The TL.net staff put it VERY nicely and some people just took their comments toward Draco way too far.

you guys make it seem like he's playing this tournament for your enjoyment... there's money on the line, so he's playing for it. maybe he doesn't practice because he's confident enough in his skill that he doesn't feel the need to play this game more than he has to. If you heard his interview at WCG (the joke one), he mentions that he relies heavily on his time as a progamer and feels that he has the skill to compete with just about anyone... so why practice? he's giving honest answers, and people are calling him a jackass? he's playing for himself, not to please some random forum nobodies, if you don't like that, then don't comment on him, or don't let him play more TL tournaments.... you can't make somebody care about their public image, or make them "be a good sport" to please fans.
also, it's better that he gives nice honest answers unlike the bullshit that Mondragon spews out for example, always saying "oh I'm so lucky I won, the other player is so good, I just got lucky", that is not only bullcrap, but it gets boring, obviously he knows he's better than just about everyone, he just gives these politically correct answers all the time and it's boring.
I admire people like Draco, Idra, Mistrzzz, etc, much more for being straight up and forthwith in their interviews, they speak what's on their mind and don't give a crap about their image or how people perceive them, more power to them. it gives everything more personality.
conclusion: if Draco is only playing for the money, and he's good enough to be able to do that, then shit, more power to him for being able to win a nice amount of money relying on skills he already has, while he focuses on more important things in life... while everyone else in the tourney is playing 20-30 games a day to prepare.

I admire people like Draco, Idra, Mistrzzz, etc, much more for being straight up and forthwith in their interviews, they speak what's on their mind and don't give a crap about their image or how people perceive them, more power to them. it gives everything more personality.
conclusion: if Draco is only playing for the money, and he's good enough to be able to do that, then shit, more power to him for being able to win a nice amount of money relying on skills he already has, while he focuses on more important things in life... while everyone else in the tourney is playing 20-30 games a day to prepare.
go Draco!
Dude wtf are you talking about? There are people who are honest and humble . And in case you didn't notice, Mondragon lost in round 1 so yes, he was actually very correct in his response.
Its not about the fact that Draco said he didn't practice. Its the fact that he said it was funny he still beat Strelok - as if he was better than everyone else because he didn't need to practice. Maybe he didn't mean it that way but it definitely came off that way.

I doubt he would do it to insult anybody. And even so, it ISN'T funny if Draco won with no practice at all? I think that's pretty damn funny IMHO and to me it just sounds like Draco is stating the facts.

I really doubt Draco would have pleasure making this stuff up!! like he said he answers the questions, he's the only guy in this tournament with pass korean experience so... is level of pratice is probably less important .....
GO DRACO

I enjoy watching Draco games, he's a great player... that's all that matters to me.
Go Dreiven, you deserve to win it all !

Personally I am not mad at Dracos interviews and blame him as a liar or something like that. But stll I have to say that I find his attitude a bit strange.
Firstly he wrote in one of his interviews that he did not put much effort in the games in the ladder stage and offraced alot because that were only meaningless ladder games. This reads for me also like "now it gets more serious and I put more efforts in". In the ladder stage he played many games like others but now when it gets serious he doesnt practice.
Secondly he explained that he wouldnt start in TSL if he wouldnt see him finish at the first place cuz he plays for the money. But now he sensed it funny that he still was able to win vs strelok. Like it was something unexpected?
Maybe this also because of some language barriers but everything sounds a bit contradictory and I am not smarter about his attitude as without his interviews.
But whatever I dont put to much weight on this since I am more looking towards the next games.

He had to play a lot inorder to qualify for top 48 spot. For top 16, even more so.

I mean its absolute up to him how he is preparing for his games. But from the third person view after reading his interviews you just keep asking yourself what is the real attitude behind.. how much horny is he actually on the first place + the money and is he that careless, super self-confident or just wants to show off a bit.

Draco, don't expect people to respect you or believe what you're saying when you're acting like a e-thug on the forums and just flaming everyone in your path.
|
Draco was in Korea for months, he has probably had more and much more importantly BETTER practice than just about anyone else in the bw scence outside of Korea, not to mentioned the fact that he played at least a couple of hundred ladder games to warm up and get back into shape. So for me it is not strange or funny at all that he beat Strelok without specifically practicing for it.

its really possible to answer all misunderstandings with a lighter tone (hi Leg ) and all of Dracos 12 posts on TL are all the same agitated responses.
Relax Mr. Nalepka, ppl really are cheering for you.

Draco, don't get upset about some pussies that spew shit on forums. the majority of tl.net supports you and has been cheering for you when you were in korea. people who take these interviews too seriously can't be taken seriously anyways. I don't believe what Mondragon says in his interviews neither, but that doesn't mean that I think he's a bad person. He's so humble and he always says that he relies on luck, but in the end I think that he just doesn't want to come as arrogant and that he doesn't care about the interviews.
If you say that you didn't practice at all that's fine and I don't even care too much if it's true or not. If you back it up by saying you were honest I believe you though.
|
the way I see it Draco just plays as much as he has to, and if he can pick up some prize money in the process that's fine, if not whoop-dee-doo. also I concur with everything Xeris said.
what is the payout structure anyway?
|
I really don't give a shit if what he said was true or not. Personally, I believe it, because lying like that is somewhat "below" Draco. Why would he lie like that? I'm pretty sure he realized that someone was going to say something about it.
He got lots of practice just by qualifying. Some people don't need to practice die hard for days and days for a single game, just like some people don't have to study all night to take a test.
Maybe for Draco, SC is like riding a bike... once you get back on the seat, all of your instincts and training kick in.
Does anyone agree, or am I just pissing in the wind?
|
I didn't know they had BBQ's in Poland -_-! *gasp*

Some players say it all relies on the map itself. But for draco? nah, its all relies on skillz, baby.

That's why I don't see anymore arguments to still show the perfect public manner when some people calls me a "dick", "jerk" or whatever else (just an examples).
you should have add gg no re at the end

jf will eat draco alive if they are playing together

"IefNaij said his heart was beating so fast when he was playing down 0-1." I remember when i stared playing on some ladder awhile back, I had some tough games and my heart beat so much I thought i would get a heart attack. I know how jf feels when you have to deal with so much pressure. It makes me play better atleast.

at least jf is being honest -)

In his interview, I thought he was exaggerating too, but then he jumped in later to strongly confirm it. That's enough for me to believe him. I guess that's the huge skill difference between foreigners and semi-pro.

LOL @ all the draco controversy. Maybe he practices, but he says he doesn't so why shouldn't we believe him? At this skill level it is possible for anyone to win and preparation is not everything. Draco may just be great at pulling out wins when he needs them.
I do I really hope draco is 3-0'ed in the Ro8 and the Ro4 interviews his opponent says "Well, I guess Draco should have practiced some." It would just be too funny.

Given Idra's result in Courage that may be true. If it is, then it stands to reason that a skilled foerigner who has had the opportunity to train with the Koreans for an extended time would have an advantage over other foreigners. Draco won the tournament in China (PGL?) which featured a few Korean semipros and made it to the semis of his Courage league. He beat Midas and nearly beat iloveoov in WCG. The ladder stage was probably all the practice he needed to get into the kind of shape where he can pull off a 2-0 of even a great player like Strelok. It's certainly not impossible.
I guess by that same logic, Idra should be even more of a force to be reckoned with by the time TSL2 rolls around.

hrhrh he simply likes to be regarded as a player who doesn't need to practice in order to own the shit out of everyone, no matter wether his statements on practicing are true or not. you may call it an inferiority complex, you might not care at all. no big deal. in any case, he's more than just slightly favored to take it all now that mondi is gone. i personally wouldn't mind seeing him finishing first, after all he's an awesome player.
|
Well the funny thing is that there are people making a big deal out of it on both sides. When you say something controversial in a public interview its the normal way that it is discussed and a discussion for itself is not a bad thing. Some people just may should questioning things more smoothly at first.
But when on the other hand then some defenders come and put in everyone who is questioning / criticizing their fav players the intention that they "spew shit" or use terms like "pussies" they should know that they making a bigger deal out of it themselves too and depending from which side you are looking from they could be seen as pussies or whiners too. the way like every criticism can kill somebody and the comment function is reserved for 24/7 asslicking.
But at all I appreciate that nothing is one-sided and when you read different versions from people its easier to understand the point of the other one. I just think Draco could be a bit less sensitive in forums. If he would be more calm and didnt expect the worst case like maybe "everyone here accuses me of beeing a liar" or other things in this direction it would walk more smoothly too. But I clarify now this is only one small hint and not a big deal.

great interviews. I think Draco is totally luying about him not practicing, hes probably practicing 24/7 considering the prizes are soo good!

the difference between idra and draco is that when draco left for korea he was the best.

Draco comes off as insulting and arrogant. That can't really be argued. Whether it's an intentional insult or whether he just want to stress the fact to improve his fan-base I have no clue.
On one hand I think it's cool to see some grudges between players - makes future encounters all the more entertaining. On the other hand I kinda get fed up with people unnecessarily target other players / comments / less skilled players with denigrating talk and counter-comments. It gets old very fast. And you easily stand out as a ... not gonna use the word. But yeah. you know what I'm getting at.
Interview's are cool. There we're actually asking for a persons opinion and thoughts on a topic or situation. In public forums it's another matter, where we'd appreciate some constructive criticism instead of hating spam to embarass or humiliate players - which results in a lesser player base on the whole for the game. That would be against everybody's interest I'd say - just doesnt seem like many give a rats ass about it, or has the brain-capacity to think that far ahead.
Draco - awesome games. You put on a good show. Strelok - insulted ? I dig - gonna look forward to your next match. Should be some explosive battles ahead. Keep up the good fight! PPl making unconstructive comments - Zip it.
