For those of you who don't know me i'm Nick Plott also known as 'Tasteless.' I've been a competitive gamer on SC since the game has come out and have since then moved on to shoutcast many live tournaments such as WCG, Blizzcon, WWI and others. I do this because i love this game and esports in general and also have a long time interest in helping it's growth. A week ago i was informed that Arirang TV (http://www.arirang.co.kr/index.asp) has been looking for an English RTS caster. I am very happy to tell you all i have been accepted for this position and will now be broadcasting on Korean national television.
When i first started casting i promised myself i would only cast SC because i feel (actually i flat out know) that SC is the best and most hardcore esports game ever made. However, after time i learned that it was difficult to get hired for many of these events if i was only casting one game. The result was me occasionally casting Warcraft 3 as long as i was casting Starcraft as well. In Korea i will be covering both War3 and SC because i would not have been hired otherwise. Because i have been vested with the privilege of bringing SC and War3 coverage i plan on working very hard to update my war3 knowledge so i can give the best coverage possible.
Many of you may know i have tried to get in to Korea to broadcast before but have only managed to cover specific events. One of my major goals was getting a permanent job in Korea so i could cover events year round. Unfortunately Korea is a very closed culture as far as esports goes and it's hard to get inside that microcosm unless you have good connections. It was not me who even figured out that Arirang was hiring, it was none other than probe/cannon/scout master Rekrul. Rekrul not only discovered that Arirang was hiring but managed to convince (or use DA mind control ability on) the company that i was the right person for the job. I would have never had this chance unless Rek had gone out of his way to do this and for that i thank him. I also ask everyone at TL.net to thank him because, even if you don't like my casts, people like rekrul are helping esports to expand to a broader audience--and that's a good thing. Thx again Rekrul =]
I will be co-broadcasting with Jason Lee, a top notch professional broadcaster who i am looking forward to working with. i hope you all tune in. Thankyou again tl.net for always supporting me.
I will need new friends when i get to korea, please don't hesitate to PM me if you need a friend to goto the PC bang or the bar.
If your good at war3 or know a good war3 progamer i would love to get some tips. I want to give that game the respect it deserves.
Also, would any Korean TL.net members be willing to help me find an apartment in korea? i also need to get korean cellphone service and a korean bank account. I would greatly appreciate it. I promise to take you out for drinks if you help. <3
You probably need to cut down on the cursing during your commentating though haha~~
war3 advice: You could ask Rek to introduce you to some war3 pros, current and retired. If I remember correctly, Rek is close to Zacard, who retired earlier this year among others.
"yeah the poor kid wrote me this huge resume email it probably took him over an hour to make and I didn't even bother reading any of it because your word is enough....yeah he basically has to suck your nuts the rest of his life."
HOLY SHIT TASTELESS!!!!! That is such awesome news!! I am so jealous!!!!! (I actually can't go to Korea and make a living because then I'd be drafted for the army :p) I am definately looking foward to the expansions of progaming, and you at the head of the SC section :DDDDD
Of course Rekrul is just such a damn baller!!! I can't believe he made this happen. Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!@#$@#$%#@$^!#$~@#$
Holy shit, awesome! Who the fuck is Jason Lee? Best thing that could possibly happen to progaming for countries outside of korea EVER. This could lead to so much if eventually korean starcraft matches are broadcast other places, and english commentary would obviously be the first step.
Lol, it's been so long since I played SC and made a post here, I forgot my account.I have a vent server or you can just email me at ShrieK1295@gmail.com if you want to talk about Warcraft.
Good luck sir !! Wow what a dream come true.Im envious a little bit but am excited, as im sure all of TL.Net is.Have a great time and maybe one day ill come visit you sir.Keep us informed!!
no one better to represent, make us proud tasteless! plus if sc2 ends up being truly competitive, you've struck gold and years of double fun; the lurker, from behind the scene, strikes again!
Nick congrats man! I wish you the best. Look forward to seeing you at future events. That drink you enjoy so much you can now afford to buy me one! Cranberry and Malibu Rum. LOL
REKRUL!!! We go way back thank for helping the scene you always are there for the right people.
Congrats! How will it work though, can people choose languages over the computer and so your commentating will be overheard by the original commentators?
I hope there'll be a way for us to view your shoutcasts through the computer Congrats, and thanks to Rekrul! Do you happen to have any commentaries on YouTube that we can check out?
5/5 would read again and again and again Very happy for you tasteless, thx rek as well Cant wait for some sexy english commentary, i might watch games more now :D
Awesome! Tasteless comentary = orgasm, I have watched 10+ times all your commentaried VODs. And kudos to Rek Wow, I think I will work all day long with huge smile
Awesome man, you know i met you briefly back in WCG 2005 but i wasn't that into SC anymore. When i came back to England, my mate was telling me all about your commentries and said you started wrestling with another commentator while a match was being played. So yeah, i looked you up, thought "oh shit i met him" and the rest is gg
AWWW man! I'm so happy for you Tasteless, you seem like a great person! You just do your thing and make sure the cast is actually accessible by foreigners ^ ^
Very cool. No offense but these are the kinds of things that solidfy my belief that its not what you know (college) its who you know (networking/using skill).
PS- Any word on details yet? Including salary? (if you dont mind my asking)
Im so happy to hear this I think this is an important step in spreading progaming outside of S.Korea. GJ Tasteless, Rek and everyone else involved in making this happend and good luck in the promissed land of progaming!
"even if you don't like my casts" Who doesn't like your casts? Whoever that is, is a retard.
Tasteless looks high on that picture.
Wont' you need some kind of Korean ID? Can someone explain how that Korean ID stuff works? Sometimes I want to make an account in a Korean website, but it doesn't let me cuz it says I need an ID (even though I don't understand Korean language )
Wow that is awesome! Congratz man and keep up the good work. Try to spot all the things going on in the game, e.g. comments like "WHOA WHERE DID THE CARRIERS COME FROM" should remain in´the past.
Also, to help the spread of esports even more you might want to consider contacting some of your local news outlets and trying to get a story going on this, especially as the time comes closer to when you actually go.
I really enjoy your commentating, and i im super amped to hear you commentate live and direct from korea I think you understand what a big thing this is! the rest of us do!
anyway, gl over there. ill pm you when im going to korea in a year or so, if ur still there, i would love to get together, watch some live sc action TL FIGHTING! ^^*
This is the most exciting Korean Esports news ever.
I'm not exaggerating.
Good fucking job Tasteless, and good fucking job Rek. Actions speak louder than words, and it's clear that you care a lot more about SC and progaming than most of us will ever know...both of you.
Best of luck, Tasteless. The WCG2006 casts were what got me into the proscene originally. Many thanks, and I'm looking forward to seeing you awing your co-commentators and audience with your enthusiasm and humor
Although I can't say I love every single one of your shoutcasts, you do have many bright moments and I'm a big fan of your type of humor. All in all very good news to get an English commentator down there. Can't wait to sink my teeth into English VODs.

you are such an attention whore. LOL. it's ok, i still heart ya. yeah i needed a job and didnt want to sign a 1 year contract so rek got me one for like 2 months.
nick! i'm so excited for you to be here, i'll help ya out in finding an apartment, i have a real estate agent i've been working with too. ooh and getting a visa and such, are they taking care of that for you?

Getting phones sucks for foreigners, by the way. The second-hand ones my friends ended up getting all broke. So pay extra for a new one.
they arent too bad about it - tho i'm gonna go in today to ask about how tasteless can get a phone at the store. i'm considered a foreigner here too, but didnt have any issues. what type of visa you getting, nick?
Tasteless if this ends up not working out you should go to broadcasting school or something if this is your dream and not just a means of getting to Korea to have some fun with your life.
Rekrul's influence in Korea is really amazing at this point. But Tasteless if this is your passion you have a lot of work to do, I don't mean any offense but you're really far from what I would consider a good caster. Either way I think you'll have a lot of fun in Korea so enjoy yourself. It will look good on your resume regardless
i know.. tasteless are you just studying wc3 like crazy right now? I mean it is a pretty complex game..
BTW - there's no longer any doubt e-sports WILL one day be huge in Europe/North America. Asians set all the trends.. I might need to start investing money in it now... haha
I was woundering what angel you are going to put on the casting..I mean the previous casting has been extremly good, but also they have been for the guys who are kinda new to this and dosn't know starcraft that well, explaining stuff like what a ramp is and things like that.
Do you think thats gonna be the style of commentary in korea as well, or we are gonna hear a much more deep analysis, like the once in korea ( i think) are now? or maby a mix?
I would think the second option, but still kinda interessting to hear an answer about this. Thx.
