And with the main message of safe sex education being abstinence, giving away contraceptives would kind of undermine this message, no? Do you also argue that the D.A.R.E. program works?
I'I haven't touched drugs in my life, and my parents never talked to me about them. I'm grateful that in elementary school, I was taught that drugs are "bad". So yes, it did work for me. Maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but nothing does.

The only reason i can come up with why you wouldnt want to distribute them is that it may encourage teens who are feel pressure to start having sex to start having sex. But this is a very SMALL amount of kids, its fine to pass them out imo.

Agreed. Sex isnt't a bad thing and there is absolutely no reason why education and handing out condoms shouldn't go hand in hand. I'd rather have some more teenagers having sex due to freely distributed condoms than some more unwanted pregnancies due to no available condoms.

i dont really get what is so bad about sex.
if both ppl are mature about it and know what they are doing then its a very intimate, passionate and pleasurable event.
isn't it? i mean just because it involves the parts of the bodies where we make smelly wee wee doesnt really mean its bad... ( ._.)a

I got free condoms in university. What a waste of resources.

Thats absolutly rediculous not to give teenagers free access to condoms. I'm 17 and believe you me free condoms = good times. Those of you who think that simply giving a kid a condom will make them want to have sex .... how can i put this. If you are choosing not to have sex its like giving a steak to a vegitarian. They simply won't use it and pass it on. You can't expect to simply tell kids to stay abstinant because it just wont happen. No offense or anything sit back and simply preach about abstinance is very ignorant when you should be educating about planned parenthood homes, condom, safe sex, and ...... maybe the kama sutra? Maybe not that last one but that would be an intersting class.

its a proactive solution to a problem. instead of sticking your head up your ass like the conservatives and trying to preach abstinence in the schools o.O

should definitely do it
most ridiculous point of view ever would be both opposing this and abortion which I guess is the case for quite some people;)

I don't get this.. of course it is positive that they are dealt condoms at school! It lessens the risk of people getting diseases and becoming unwillingly pregnant

they should not give away condoms in high schools. they should not be promoting sex. if teenagers want to have sex they can buy there own condoms. school is meant for offering education, not keeping you safe from pregnancy so you can stay in school.

i can't believe the amount of negative responses in this thread.
of course condoms should be handed out for free.

IMO it's fine because it's better than allowing students to just practice unsafe sex. I know the argument is sorta (maybe I'm wrong?) that the religious people (and maybe others) feel that distributing condoms is like a school saying it's OK to have sex, however we live in an age now where it's not the school that ultimately decides whether or not a student will have sex at what age. I think it's how the students were allowed to be brought up, and their influences (friends, TV shows, etc.). A school that practices the use of contraception(sp?) is better than one that allows students to freely receive STD's.
EDIT: I went back and re-read a lot of the other posts here, and I realized how ignorant you guys sound. You don't even know the argument on the other side. Maybe you should take some time out of your busy schedules and read up a bit, and realize that morality has some influence here too.
I guess you guys are too addicted to sex to actually know that the standards before our time (and probably a little before some of our parents) were to grow up and then have sex.
One of the biggest problems is the younger children having sex, as early as 12 years old (YES it's true, children have sex at this age, and could so earlier). Go do some google-ing and come back with some educated responses.

They are not promoting sex, they are just making sure that IF people are going to have sex, that they do it properly and use protection.
It's not like the students go all like "oh cool we have condoms let's go have sex!"
And NO, you are correct. It's not the school's job to buy condoms for everyone, but it is damn nice that they choose to do so, and it does avoid many problems. So why shouldn't they?

Yo as long as they are distributin' extra-large (my size, you know how it is... wait no you don't) it's cool with me.

yeah sure, this works until you take dugs. then you cant decide which is the right one for you. that includes alcohol, cigaretts, medicine, ... i know many ppl like you, who said the same thing and then became sleep pill addicts. instead the could have smoked weed for example and they would have been much better. exactly these things also happen to heoin addicts. they get fucked coz they never got educated obejctively on those things. im not pro handing out condom in highschool, but im pro sex education, (and not gay anatomy shizzle, which is just worth a shit) and maybe condom automats where you can buy cheap a condom in the toilet.
