help me too.
When you run adaware and it comes up and scans everything. Do yuo check the boxes? then press next? i do and it says im deleting them but then they are all in the quarentine thing i think, then. Should i delete the quarentine thing too? and i have tons of problems with spyware. what exactly should i do? i ran spybot like twice adn it fucked up my .exe's for a while once. And it didnt seem to get rid of anything
Help :o

veg, what os are you using, and what exactly did ad-aware quartine? Run every virus scanner you can thats for sure.
Sadist, yes you either check the boxes, or right click one and choose the 'select all' option in case you have a lot. Quarentining is just to keep them in case adaware fucks up and misidentifies a file or something, so you need it back. Or if the spyware removal process ruined your pc so bad you prefer to leave the spyware on there. You can delete the quarentine if you want, you are safe with or without it.
To solve your problem of getting spyware i recommend you disconnect your computer from the internet and stop browsing.

Drew, you just click the boxes, and click next. Make sure you update your Ad-Aware everday as well.
Your best bet is to DL Firefox, and eliminate all the loopholes that IE creates.
If you don't want to DL Firefox, then disable your ActiveX in IE, that can fix a lot of the problems.

have you tried restarting veg?

Veg, stop using fucking ME! I have never worked with such a piece of shit OS as ME in my life. I get call's from people all day with OS issues, and 90% of those people have ME. Stick with Window's 2000 Professional if you can afford the upgrade, it's your best bet.

Wtf?? Don't make useless stupid posts randomnly flaming people and not contributing to the topic in any such way. Be more childish please, fuckface...
Also, do you even know why you are saying I suck? If you knew even the slightest bit about computers you would know that ME is fucking trash and deserves to go down as one of the worst OS's ever.

Try this, it states WIN98 but it should definetly work for ME as well.
Insert the Windows 98 startup disk, and then restart your computer to a command prompt. Select Start computer with CD-ROM support. Note the drive letter that is assigned to your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. At the command prompt, type c:, and then press ENTER. Type cd\windows\system, and then press ENTER. Type rename urlmon.dll urlmon.old, and then press ENTER. Type ext, and then press ENTER. When you receive the "Please enter the path to the Windows CAB files (a" message, type drive:\win98 where drive is the drive letter that you noted in step 1, and then press ENTER.
NOTE: If you have an OEM installation of Windows, the .cab files may also be located in the following folder: C:\Windows\Options\Cabs
If you extract from the Internet Explorer .cab files, the .cab files may also be located in the following folder: C:\Windows\windows update setup files
When you receive the "Please enter the name(s) of the files(s) you want to extract" message, type urlmon.dll, and then press ENTER. When you receive the "Please enter the path to extract to ("Enter" for current directory)" message, type c:\windows\system, and then press ENTER. When you receive the "Is this okay? (y/n)" message, type y, and then press ENTER.
The file is extracted. Remove the Windows 98 startup disk, and then restart the computer.
That should fix that DLL error at least.

On September 20 2004 14:53 Veg wrote: dont have the cd --;
Well then unless you have the CAB files on your HD your pretty fucked. Try searching for *.cab and see if those CAB's pull up. If you see them there try to see if you can follow those directions and change the destinations to where the CABS are in your harddrive.

I'm positive its a virus.
When you last had a problem with your computer, did you format it? Do you have zone alarm/norton installed? If you answer yes to both, then its very likely that your hard drives boot sector is infected. If so, a normal virus scan, even if updated, will not pick it up, and no amount of formatting will remove it.
But first, if you cant extract the dll file from your windows cd, just run a search on google and download it. Then copy it into your system32 folder. See if that fixes it.
And DO use zonealarm.
Let me know if copying a downloaded dll file fixes your problem.

Get a USB hard drive instead.
|
how does veg screws his computer up so much? what do you do on the internet ?
|
What about a linux and winex? Has somebody tried SC with winex? Or even wine?
|
linux? cmon we dont want veg to kill himself.
Veg, i think youre poker habits have probably resulted in this spyware, considering that revolves around gambling and online java based applets. You are just a target for spyware/viruses. Im gonna take a guess that you dont just stick to one trusted poker site, but have probably played on oh, 10-15 in the last couple of months? Then theres your music, however youre getting that. Considering your inability to keep yourself naturally safe from web inflicted spyware, im gonna guess you probably dont keep yourself safe from p2p based spyware.
I wouldnt buy a cd rom just to back up a bunch of crap besides the mp3's maybe, otherwise just take a loss and format it all. Everyone should always have a backup of their os for these purposes, what are you gonna do? I rarely recommend a format to anyone, as it is usually every newbs first line of advice, but in this situation with your repeated infections, and especially this very recent one, you probably could go for an ole fashion wipeout. Good luck, and wherever you get an OS from, make sure to back that up first!
|
actually, i like the linux idea now. With the release of mandrake 10 its never been easier for a total ass newb to just jump into it and at least be surfin and chattin within an hour. Starcraft should run under basic wine, so ive heard. Im about to give this os a 'burn-in' test in the coming months when i upgrade, but if your internet life is simple veg, try it out. Its free.
|
You could alway resize your main partition. Create a backup partition. Put all needed files on backup partition. format & reinstal the window partiton. merge the two partitions.
All you need is some comp skills(you could probably do it with detailed instruction), a window 2000&key from bittorrent(easy) and partition magic(easy).
Edit: You don't have a burner :/ ask a friend with cable and burner. Edit2: Burner is needed to create the 2k cd, if you can get it from someone you won't need burner.

LOL..........
WTF
miraculously........ the problem is gone
wtf?????? i didnt even do anything =/ !!
oh well.... thx =/

indeed, win ME sux, the most secure windows is 2000 Server, but its too uncompatible so your best choice is 2000 pro

If he fdisks his harddrive it is like a brand new one, it removes boot viruses, my uncle who is the biggest computer guru in the world told me this and i have done it a few times before i reformat so i would definitely believe him but i have no real proof.

Bring your computer to San Fran. At that point I will take a look at it and fix it. If I cant, I will throw it into the ocean, which will force you to win WCG in order be sponsered by Samsung and recieve massive amounts of free computer gear.
Your welcome.

I would download xp,2000 or a linux distro. DOS IS A FUCKING SAD PLATFORM TO BUILD AN OS ON!!!!!!
Ps. Its not hard to run linux but you should have an interest to learn.

- Fdisks doesn't remove boot sector viruses, unfortunately .
Veg: If I were you I'd get myself a USB-HDD (no not CD-Burner, chances are the virus must've infected a fair portion of you HDD) and a UP TO DATE Virus Scan (AntiVir Personal Ed. is good). Then Backup all your data, whatever crap you have on you b0x0r. Format you drive, and reinstall ME. Clean out all the ME junk (there are guide online), you'd get a fair amount of HDD space out of it, then reinstall all your programs (Virus Scan first, then Firewall). Just my 2 cents.
Cured itself? Maybe Windows ME has a "immunity" tool...

Fdisk DOES remove boot sector viruses. Unfortunately, over the last few years, boot sector viruses have become fdisk "proof". It has to do with what area of the boot sector is infected. In certain areas, running fdisk can actually destroy your boot sector, which is why fdisk isnt used to clean boot sector viruses anymore.

veg, now youre being stupid. Just because your computer may function ok for an hour doesnt suddenly mean you are cured. You wont be able to say you are cured until 2 weeks go by without a single problem, so stop with the idiotic "OMG WTF LOL!!" and give it some time.

reformat veg :[
on a side note, another thing i do like about all of the FPS community, we are also computer nerds
