For the Starleague prelims thrice per annum we meet, Half go on to the Starleagues; half drop in defeat. They who win in the spotlight shall battle-skills hone. We who lose fade away. We are many, alone.
Like a racehorse, too old for the victories sweet Growing slow, turning weak, ever more obsolete, Newbies fresh out of school, those who once held the throne, The rejected, the losers, the many, alone.
Some will quit, and reality they shall embrace And go work in an office and drink into daze, Slaving just for a paycheck, at home just to moan, Mediocre, generic, and many - alone.
If depression doesn't set into game-hardened brain, I can see: in the future, more Starleagues remain. With more practice, I'll micro, I'll maynard each drone, And defeat my opponents, the many alone.
From mass solitude each of us aims to ascend And to prove oneself better than foe and than friend, Shred the league, as a wolf rips the flesh from a bone And I'll stand at the summit, completely alone.
These are the faces and reactions of everyone that did not advance in the Dual and Survivor qualification tournaments after the Daum OSL and GomTV2 MSL.
Features the same song used in the closing ceremonies of Shinhan Masters.
It's a long wait until the next Dual and Survivor. Here's to hoping all our favorites make it the next time around.
Miscellaneous notes: - Couldn't find one of Nal_rA, the small vods cut off. - Darkelf makes a losing face and reaction when he wins. - Lucifer has the happiest win reaction ever. - Saddest face nominees: Luxury, TT, Junwi, and Free.
Players included in the video (by appearance) OSL Dual: oov, luxury, reach, casy, backho, fbh, shark, zergboy, yooi, free, sea
yes, that was the aim of the video, to get a little bit of sympathy to those that didn't make it in
i was going to make a second one of the qualifiers, but its hard to find clips of them actually looking happy after qualifying. lucifer looks happy, so does jaedong... but everyone else just looks relieved.
like an "omg i am alive" face after like a week of straight practicing for it
It's always sad watching players lose once you know how hard it is in the progaming world. Sometimes a good player will just slightly miss the OSL, then fade from the dual league, and then just disappear from the starleagues altogether. It's so hard to get back up after that. I'd really like to see Junwi in an OSL again.
although, Hwasin should also be in it, he also has the saddest loss reactions too. His eyes glitters...but Reach at the last 10 seconds... And Stork should be in it, I know you guys have seen his reaction after losing from Bisu in the MSL...

he has glasses (those square, black ones) and hes got the Hanbit shirt on (K-SWISS) at 2:28.
It was a bummer seeing Junwi lose and then his expression after, Hot Bid is right, he probably wanted it bad. He used to be a feared and good Zerg, now cant even qualify. So sad. Seeing Free's expression also hits hard.

But good luck next season~ All of you...
except both Hwasin and Stork are qualified for both leagues =) but yeah, I agree Hwasin looks quite pitiful when he loses.

I hate it when Free loses too. He can take 5 dragoons and break a tank defence. I don't know what he's missing, when I watch him I see a top class player. But he doesn't get the results.
On August 29 2007 19:00 Kwark wrote: That was part of it. He's not shocked to lose anymore. He's a sad old bear. And that in itself is depressing.
He's been like that for ages, actually. I'd like to see again the same expression he had when he was facing Yellow during that SKY OSL (the one he won) semis. After losing game 4 (Yellow coming back to 2-2), there was "no way dude, this is MY starleague" all over his face. Eyes of the tiger really. Now on the other hand he looks bored and like he doesn't give a fuck anymore, basically. :/
This is an issue with most players, they all end up gradually losing their initial self-confidence/determination, and when that happens it's highly likely their peak is officially over. Most of the time you can tell just by looking at their facial expression before/after/during games.

It must bite all the more that he's clearly aware of the brilliance he has displayed in all matchups. However he's then brought crashing to earth with games such as getting rolled by Stork + Savior, failing to qualify here, etc.
That was unbearable. Please, for heaven's sake, never again show something so sad. If you were to see a man's weakest moment, it is after he loses a game in the Dual/Survivor tourney.
I was looking over the list of people who actually qualfied - it's such a boring list of people. There are some names I like, some I find interesting though I dislike.. but.. so many people like 910[Ete] who are 1 Mu wonders, people like Crocus who have the dullest playstyle ever.. sigh~
yeah the free clip of him losing was actually what caused me to make the video. he just looks so ridiculously sad and disappointed when he loses, and cares so fricken much, despite making jack shit in salary.

I think when he signed for Hanbit his salary was very low. I am 100% sure it was around or below 2000$/year. I do not know if Free signed new contract with higher salary.
edit: Using search function I found Free[gm], Yoon Yongtae - $6,000 - 4.2006-3.2007. Does anyone have details about new contract?

Wow, I never knew he got paid so low. But I guess most of the Hanbit players don't get paid too well. All players get free room and food though right?

AFAIK, yeah, they all get housing so their salaries goes to their pocket. Though, i think the new contract should be higher (lazy to look if i can find it)
so sad... hopes and dreams crushed =( ... it's hard to watch a man so down
that said, i think losers of the survivor/dual tourneys must feel even worse... it's back to the sc mines again, sludging through all the pre-qualifying slaughter again

Reach especially deserves our love. He's become a "have been" and he's too good for that. And it's made even worse that he knows it. I want Reach to win one last starleague and then retire. And then disney will make a movie about it. And there needs to be a fat coach telling him that he's lost his touch and will never make it and Reach says he has to try. And several flashbacks of his greatest moments.

he's not a has-been yet. he advanced flawless from groups last starleague..
there are a lot of players I'd like to win a starleague and then retire though. yellow, reach, junwi, goodfriend.. maybe blaze.

Jju always looks like he's just been beat up and the bikers took his girlfriend.
I think the progamer who fell the hardest has been Yellow... He's just been almost non-existant lately (except in girly magazines). Second place would probably go to Casy.

he'll post a comment "there is no need for this video" in the comment section of youtube with his "teamliquidsucks" account

second comment will also be deleted by video creator and "teamliquidsucks" will be banned from commenting

Lol, A video dedicated to losers. In your dreams you are a champion. You play your oponent and think you will fool him. But then reality strikes and he who you tought you could fool has thwarted your plans. It is hopeless you are not the best
Its good to win but when you do , you have to realise that it is not eternal. There will always be someone better than you. Even the greatest fall some day.

In which step he will simultaniously be making another account just to repeat the process?
I feel so bad for Goodfriend...I like his play, I've been a fan for years, but he never makes it. I think he looks really sad when he loses but apparently most people don't think he has an expression.

How about making a huge compilation of victory ceremonies next time.
Just an idea
I totally agree! Please? Maybe exclude some of the more 'cocky' (eg FBH or some of chalrenge's?) ceremonies? I mean only include those that shows the 'omg i cant believe I won that bo7!' (eg oov-boxer?) feeling.
p.s. can anyone explain to me the significance of "did not advance in the Dual and Survivor qualification tournaments after the Daum OSL and GomTV2 MSL?"

it means they don't qualify for the OSL or MSL and have to wait until next season
