Re-Infestation - Warning, following text may contain spoilers!
Today, the MSL is finally seeing some fresh faces and fresh races. We had to bear the appearance of six Terrans in total on the other playday, but thankfully + Show Spoiler +
only two of four possible made it through
. However, the experience was sweetened by some incredibly pimp play and an ingame ceremony that yet seeks its equals. (for those living under a Rock, here is your info) In any case, we see a totally new species today. Meet THE ZERG.
Previous to our pretty little doggy darlings running after their favourite plaything, i.e. human limbs and protoss babies, we have to bear the last Terran mirror for this round. But so far, even those games have not been disappointing us. Sea will definitely be looking to make up for his early dropout in the OSL. fOrGG will try to perform the leap from Proleague monster to MSL monster.
The second game matches up Canata against Kal. Canata has been playing well recently, he was a major part in SKT1's resurgence, reached a personal Elo peak, and has been going 9-3 since the last MSL. But these stats are misleading. Going 8-0 against Terran and 1-3 against Protoss shows an unhealthy diet of matchups. Sorry Canata, unless you start to perform miracles, Kal will mutilate you and leave a shapeless pulp of flesh where once was shiny Terran hope.
Third matchup is everyone's favourite rabid lemming going against "The fantastic Lomo" (tm). Lomo is a phenomenon to me. Recently he was included in Lecaf's proleague lineup for the first time in ages (read: since more than half a year). He used that opportunity to beat Nada. He casually ousted Hwasin out of the GSL. Since survivor he has gone 6-0, 8-0 if you count GSL in. And it only goes to show Lecaf's solo strength that they could allow themselves to preclude this player from their lineups. His enemy is Kwanro, the former next big Zerg. Entertainment value, yes, was once. But consistent success? Not likely.
The final match of the day features, namely speaking, the matchup of matchups, but personally speaking merely Jaedong outsmarting yet another Protoss. The first game must have been quite unsatisfactory to Lucifer, as he lost to an early cannonbreak performed by the current apex of Zergship. This not only put him down 0-1, but also broke his 9-game winstreak he boasted before. Today we might be looking for some closer games, although Lucifer yet has to prove his matchup. His PvT is fairly accomplished, but what can his PvZ do?
At least Stork always fails in finals not Ro16. Gj forGG. That guy has a killer TvP (ForGG vs Jangbi could be fun) and is fast improving in TvT. Dunno aboyt his TvZ though. Anyway, Go Lecaf! Make it 3/3 today!
"When in doubt, vote SKT". Quote from Plexa I think. Kal is really good, but Canata can show brilliance sometimes. I would not be surprised if it ended 2-1.
ROFL LOL Too many believe on Sea, i'm just laughing.
Lol yeah, this season is breaking my belief in Sea. "Hell, it's about time." wouldn't apply to Sea winning a league anymore, it'd apply to him actually making the fucking Ro8.
Oh my eyes. Sloppy play by both. Kal lets his reavers wander in front of Canata's vultures. He doesn't even shot a single scarab. But Canata does not even move to snipe them. Big battle in progress now, though.
canata is obviously expecting carriers or arbs but i don't think kal even has a stargate huge battle in the middle storm rapes massive amounts of canata's forces kal is taking more bases, canata is probably going to lose this i think
On June 07 2008 20:27 InRaged wrote: ...I've never seen such weird game
Kal's play was quite amazing o.o
Amazing as in "OMFG this is so good what a genius" or "WTF went through his head. This is plain dumb"? I personally lean towards the latter. But I am having lunch while watching, so I may have missed some great moves.
the commentators were absolutely amazing during that game haha, they screamed soooo much over the storms (like even more than normal). Despite the really good storms it seemed that Canata always had more tanks and especially after the big storm battle where it looked like he'd lost his army, he had excellent tank positioning behind his forces that neutralised Kal's advantage.
So I'm a moron, and can't figure out how to get gomtv working .... will one of you promise me to give live commentary for JD vs LUC .... I've been awake for hours and couldn't figure out how to make the damn streams work .... will someone do it for me? .... the kal vs canata commentary scared me for its random uselessness =(
So we have a very fast expansion for Canata - I hope he is not overdoing it. How are the walking distances on Tiamat, will he have a problem? Kal built a Zealot first, but this zealot is his first go at scouting - so he does not know what he is up against.
The Zealot arrives shortly before the first marine pops out, gets denied by some nice SCVs - but ALMOST kills that first marine coming out. First goon is on the way as well. 2 rines fighting 1 zealot and a goon and kal managed to kill the SCV building the factory. Canata under pressure but he seems to be coping. Templar archives going down for Kal and canata does NOT look like detection at the moment.
Actually Canata DOES have an almost finished engineering bay. Kal is knocking on his front door with 2 goons. THere is a bunker in place and a tower is getting placed next to it.
AMAZING DOUBLEKILL of Goon + Marine. Range arrives for the dragoons, so they can hit the bunker from outside. Bunker is being repaired and holds, tower is up and tank is out. Canata almost looks STABLE with this, as the first DT is just making the way to his base.
AttackZerg : Copy/paste http://live.gomtv.com/submain.gom?grpid=50 in your Internet Explorer URL bar. CLick on the orange button to the right of Kal's picture. If GomPlayer is installed, it will run automatically. Otherwise, a pop up will show with Korean text inside. This is to install Gom. Click the left button on the pop up : Gom will install and run once installed.
The first DT is taking popswings at the barracks near Canata's expansion. Canata builds another tower and is safe for the moment. Kal responds to the early expo with putting down 2 expansions at his natural and bottom left while also getting an early arbiter tribunal.
In general it doesnt look like the gamble paid off for Canata, he was prevented from profiting too much from his expansion due to constant pressure by Kal.
Short lull in action (or maybe it was me reading powerrank) while both are macroing up. As it looks now, Kal has a definite economic advantage, he has a large block of goon / zeal and an arbiter floating around. Canata has prepared a 3rd CC to float it to an expansion of his choice. On the other hand, Kal has had 3 base vs. 2 base for almost the entire game and it taking a 4th towards the middle of the map. Canata is too passive.
Arbiter floating into Canata's main base, one turret cannot stop it, it goes on directly into the peon line and RECALLS. Some goons turn to soup upon mines, but the goons are in there and causing harm. Canata streams his forces in and cleans out the intruders but he has lost valuable mining time and momentum. All the while he was also far from floating his next expansion into place.
Canata has a decently sized push assembled with a control group of tanks and some vultures. The arbiter in his base is still alive and taking shots at some SCV. Next arbiter floats in, recalls goons and zealots which kill an ARMORY. Canata retreats his forces to deal with the recall while a SHITLOAD of zeal / goon is knocking in his front teethdoor. Kal STOMPS over Canata's forces.

Of course there was no point. Look at canata's build. It was designed to turtle to a third base, get a very fast 2/1 then start to push out. This puts Terran in a great position to win the game in the late game. All they have to do is be cost effective which isnt tough for T to do.
Kal expertly and skillfully cut the build down with a fantastic build timed to come before Canata's build could become effective.

So, Lomo has a group of Wraiths out and is displaying TERRIFIC micro with them, sniping scourge left and right. Commentators are rambling about "Mutalisk-Control" and it is TRUE. That flock of wraiths is spelling doom for Kwanro.
I am not sure that Lomo is aware of the additional expo that Kwanro has at the bottom of the map. Lomo moves out with a group of MM, about 1,5 control groups large. Kwanro has NOTHING against it, his mutas get decimated by wraiths and his sunken at the choke almost gets sniped by wraiths. MM reach the choke, sunkens are too late.

I was actually thinking the same thing. As in "Damn, LJD has to be teaching this kid his shit."
Wow. Lol that game was sick for Lomo. Jesus. And I remember during TG Intel Classic there were people saying "omg two port sucks balls Flash is a big jerk for trying it"... same map, same 1-0 in best of 3 setting...

Very sexy micro by lomo
Spire is lair tech ...? what other tech did he have ... I didn't see any lurkers ...
btw ... 4 lurkers and 2 spores per base would have been WAY cheaper then 20 scourge + 6-7 hydra + 10~ drones?

just saying that if map is bad for zerg, terran can go unorthodox build always and have high chance to win. Seems like Zerg has hard time scouting terran base with overlord because wide base. But 5-1 stats speaks itself :D
I am really starting to look forward to Flash vs. Lomo. Lomo knocked out Hwasin from GSL, Hwasin knocked out Nada from MSL, ergo Lomo must also be worth something in TvT.
Anyway, Lucifer vs. Jaedong is close to starting. This better be amazing, please no early knockout this time.

he could have teched to lair for ovie speed, which still wouldn't have been as good as just getting early ups (speed and range) for hydras with a slower lair tech. When he didn't see a vultures 4 min into game he should have known wraiths were coming.
Does anyone know what the size of the bars on these charts mean? I am talking about the charts that display the last 10 games playd. Obviously red bars upward mean a win, downward white bars are a loss. But what does the size mean? Game length? How deep the loser took it in?
I need jaedong to redeem my race for me. The last 6 months we went from best race with jaedong raping everybody .... and then toss and terran finally raised there level of play/timming for the millionth time making zerg the worst race again =-(

IMO Jaedong will adapt (I really hope so) to the recent change in TvZ. It'll be really different seeing him utilize Mutas much less though.
Pylon and Gateway started in the middle of the map for Lucifer, he has not found Jaedong yet though. Jaedong heading out to expand at 12 supply. Lucifer scouting the wrong direction though, at bottom left. But an overlord might soon reveal where JD is coming form. Pool starts just as the first gateway warps in.

I would assume it is an indicator related to ratings. If you beat a player who is rated higher, you get more bars.
Jaedong with very cool block against the first zealot. But as the first 3 eggs morph, 1 zealot is already in JD's base. Cool surround on one zealot, as the first 6 eggs hatch. 3 zealots in JDs base who tries to morph a sunken but it DIES eventually. One zealot left alive and 6 lings run into the undefended base of Lucifer's.

Yeah, I think it's either KESPA rank or the opponent's rank in terms of W-L in the current league. At least, that's my assumption as well.

GG!
basically its based around mbc's weird rating players system
more bars when you win = that player had a good mu when you played them (i.e i played boxer in 2001 in zvt and i won, which means 4 bars), yet not that many bars (i.e i played casy in pvt in 2005, i get only 1 bar). when you lose though, it's basically opposite to the above, i.e if i lose to casy, i get four bars for losing, while if i lose to boxer, i get 1 bar

Oh come on, you cannot be serious about this argument. I will give you a statistical argument to show how statistics can be TOTALLY MISLEADING.
Obviously we want to see how a player is playing right now. So we take the last 6 months.
In the last 6 months, Flash had a winrate of 72%. On the other hand, Lomo had a winrate of 100% in televised games. Therefore Lomo will win. Right? Right????
Really, look how Lomo is performing at the moment. Cruising through MSL. Crusing through GSL. Of course, Flash is still the huge favourite, but such an argument from statistics is just meaningless.

If you've watched Lomos TvT lately and (overall, god damnit) beautiful micro in company with very very solid macro and game sense, I can deffo see that he can give Flash a real match.
He also has that winner 'look' on his face, and I dont think he's intimidated. He's a winner simply, and will deffo become even better I think.
I'm scared for JD vs Hwasin though. I know it's not BO1, but still... There is something in the back of his head that's itching when it comes to killing Ts lately. He'll prove me wrong and go 2-0 though I'm sure

Lomo is still the underdog vs Flash but he can definitely do something. It is not as if he reached Ro8 on a streak of luck, and he is improving really fast. Moreover, at GSI, Flash lost a game was under pressure in game 3 against Juni, who has a grand total of 0 game in TLPD. So screw statistics. They don't mean more than APM. And do not forget we are talking about TvT here, where even a small mistake (micro or Bo) can cost you the game. Anything can happen at Starcraft. Except Stork winning a final, of course.

Of course, Flash won it. You are completely missing the point of my post. Juni is a noob. However, he lost 2-1 and put up a decent fight. Lomo is not a noob anymore and doing quite well these days. Why couldn't he do at least as well?

Yeah, go and tell Kwanro Lomo's 2 port wraith was actually a joke. He will laugh hard for sure. And Flash is so much the type of guy who throws games just for fun.
Fuck the people who talks with just looking results. Do you know how Flash gave Juni a game? 2 PORT WRAITH! And do you know how Flash wins his games recently? "Quotes from Flash's brain" "Well, ok have the first 10 min of the game, I'll crush you, I do not care about who you are." I do not know, Lomo has not that "bonjwa" potential in my opinion.

I was actually thinking the same thing. As in "Damn, LJD has to be teaching this kid his shit."
I just got around to catching this game now and, if you listen closely around 10:21, I think the commentators said the exact same thing, lol
I really hope for JD to get in the best shape possible so he can have some beautiful rivalry with Flash for the #1 spot.
In the other hand, the best thing about Lomo is that he looks very confident in his own self, which is as important as skill(which he is proving to have a lot of). We all know what happens when someone loses his confidence. It's too early to say, but I think he is the next big terran.
On a side note, I love Kwanro's aggressiveness. Once he polishes his game, this guy is going to tear it up. Sometimes he reminds me of ol' good July.

I would love Kwanro to make it big, but people have been saying that for so long -_- He needs to get polishing!
The july reference is well-placed though. He definitely has god-of-war influence in him, which is suprising when he is teammates with sAviOr and i'm sure trains with him daily. You would think he would pick up the eco-heavy greedy expansion style instead.
