Due to GomTV changes, this is no longer available.
Old content below for reference only.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got annoyed with how GOM Player has become increasingly unreliable trying to navigate to streams, giving "You need GOMTV" or empty pages instead of content. So I developed a little hack to work around it by making my own GOM Player "homepage". It will show upcoming live games with a one-click button to High and Low bitrate, as well as recent VODs (powered by VOD-O-Matic!).
Screenshot:
How To Use: You need to trick Gom Player into connecting to the alternate page instead of the real page. To do this, you will need to edit the IP for tv.gomtv.com in your hosts file to 65.98.84.21.
Windows XP Users This may work on Vista too, I don't know whether Vista keeps the hosts file in the same place though.
1. Start, Run
2. Type in: notepad %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and hit OK
3. You should see Notepad open up the hosts file. At the bottom of the file should be "127.0.0.1 localhost".
4. At the very end of the hosts file, add the following on a new line: 65.98.84.21 tv.gomtv.com
Save and exit notepad.
5. Close GOM Player if it's running.
6. Start GOM Player and you should see the new index.
To undo this, delete the line you added in step 4.
NOTE: I have not tested the Live Stream functionality yet, as there haven't been any live streams to test with . Rest assured if there are problems when a live game begins, I will correct them ASAP.
Let me know if this works (or doesn't) for you!

O_o I'm going to love you soo much if this works! edit: :O works like a charm, no lag at all O.O <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Works on Vista.
I love you.

|
Thanks, I might be able to get gom to actually work now!
|
hm, it says that it can't find the hosts file
|
uhh question. do you need the newest version of GomPlayer or no? cuz i dont have the newest and when i did it it is still the same 0_0
|
holy shit whats this hacks?? I can read English now!
Edit: the error 0x0000071 or some crap still happening. You can still get around it by clicking 'no' (right button) and keep spaming the Play button till it works.

good yob btw. I was never able to figure out how to use Gom correctly (and it shows scriptingerrors after every click)

I'm using winxp, and when I try to save the file it says "Cannot create the file. Make sure the path and filename are correct."
Does this have to do with permissions and/or the fact that HOSTS has no file extension?
|
Great hack! Works perfectly. But one quick question, are these your streams aka the relay ones or the original gom streams?
Thanks.

xp. After giving that error, when I tried again, it found the file, but it was blank (probably because it had just created a file for it

Works on Vista!
Thank you.

Thanks. It uses the original GOM Streams, so when pressing Play there is still a chance it won't connect the first few times, and there is still the problems of getting disconnected mid-stream sometimes. Not much I can do about that though .

Does this have to do with permissions and/or the fact that HOSTS has no file extension? I had the same problem. Just save your edited hosts file as a txt, then rename it w/out extension and replace the old one.
Thanks a lot R1CH!

NOTE: If the index doesn't work exactly at 4:30 EST for tonights Live game, I will be fixing it - just right click and hit Refresh to update it every few minutes until it works .
|
Wow, this is a pretty nice hax you got here. I approve of the solution, and thanks for the work.
|
Awesome.
TL should have a "favourite thread" option, and this page would make it.
|
Ah, naturally it overrides the page that GOMTV would normally point to, which means GOMTV is rendered useless other than SC.
How did you find out the host name and its IP?
Excellent hack!
|
question still not answered (i think) do u need the new verison of GomTv to make it work? cuz i kinda have the old one and when i tried nothing changed
|
This is fantastic. Is there a way to do the same to go to the movie page?
|
|
what do we do if it's live?
EDIT: ok i got it now, thx =)

its working perfectly

Yup, didn't show up to start with, but it's fixed now. Live stream links will remain active up to 6 hours after event start, since there is no way to tell when the show is actually over.

This is fucking awesome, nice work man! Works like a charm

Just keep pressing play and you'll eventually get there (or an ad, which then you have to wait a bit longer).
This is better then the normal GOM interface because it removes the annoying timeout messages, the only downside though is that you can't access other GOM-related material like Wonder Girls (yum) and movies.
|
Very nice indeed, no lag at all, easier to navigate, and excellent instructions, tiook me under a minute to go from 1frame per minute, to perfect live stream. Thanks a bunch ;D
|
Awesome, works perfectly!:D Thanks so much. :D

Does this trick/hack really remove all that stupid lag I'm experiencing by watching MSL right now?? Please tell me if so coz I'm really annoyed atm of this laggy garbage.

Sorry I just got a little carried away there and hoped it might be redirected to a second less populated stream server or something Still my Vista won't allow me to overwrite the damn file prolly coz of the dumb security but think I can live without since it doesn't improve the most vital aspect but still nice work.
|
this worked so god damned good
|
Well, in my case the stream is way less laggy. ^_______^V Before is used to load bit by bit every ten or so seconds. Now it's constant.
|
Just a heads up, the GOMTV Invitational games will show up as soon as I get a stream list to parse. If there's anything else you feel is missing, please let me know and I'll see if it's possible to add.

still gomplayer is so unreliable. is there any using alternative for it this day? i used to watch a lot from yaoyuan but it's not been working for quite a few months -_-
|
um it worked the very first time but i got an error and gom player closed, and then when i tried it again, gom player just shows the original "You Need Gom Player" screen?

I wanna hump R1CH OMG!!!!

They were working just a while ago. I'll check into this, I think the problem is the GOMTV indexer checks the index during live games, figures "oh hey that event is in the past, ignore it" and then the links get removed. Otherwise, the links for live games are supposed to stay there for 6 hours (since the indexer has no way to tell when the games actually ended).
|
yeah Despite how many times I try I still end up getting the "You need GOMTV" screen yet the first time it has worked. I have no idea what to do, please help =[
|
Wow, I can't believe I missed this thread the first time, this is amazing <3
|
I have a few questions about the links to get the live streams going in VLC. I spent some time toying with those last night during the MSL Survivor without success. This was my first time trying to open an external stream with VLC, so is it possible there's some setting I need there that I'm missing? My attempts to just copy/paste the link in under http seemed to result in VLC opening the stream, deciding there was nothing there to play and stopping. Didn't get an error message or anything else helpful to post, unfortunately.
It also struck me as slightly odd that the link for VLC should be the same as the one for Gom Player, but then it is a PHP file and I don't know nearly enough about PHP to (or the respective media players, for that matter) to really say anything about that.
Any help getting this to work via VLC would be greatly appreciated, as being on a Mac it's pretty much my only chance of being able to watch games live.

lol nice one, it seams to work. gonna test it next saturday =)

i dont see the index... i put # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost 65.98.84.21 tv.gomtv.com and after that it didnt show the index when i ran gomtv.... help?
|
You saved it? Restarted gom player? You have the korean gom player right? Not the english one?
Works for me, you must have done something wrong.
|
If it doesn't work after properly editing the hosts file, you or your ISP have a (possibly transparent) web proxy that is interfering with it.
|
i don't know how you get up a list of viseos...what button do u push? i only get up the player window. there is a button called playlist, but nothing is there. this might seem stupid...but even without this hack...what button is there to push?
thanks!

With the new sexy Korean GOM Index, I find if you know where to go, it ain't necessary anymore to use this.
I barely get any You Need GOM TV! Errors now.
|
where is the index? i only have a player open like it was VLC or something! is there supposed to pop up some list of videos? what should i do?
|
Due to GomTV changes, this is no longer available.
|
dammit where is run on vista...
|
which GOM player does this use or it doesnt matter?
|

|
