The Pro-Gaming scene in the US seems very small and underground right now at this point. Though titles such as Halo 3 and "novelties" of online play with Xbox have really ramped up the participation, it is still a relatively small thing when compared to other countries (I won't even mention Korea...)
For whatever reason, it seems like in the US, a large population of the Starcraft community is based in California. Even more specific than that, Southern California seems to have the most players. That being said, I would like to throw a cast out there into the TL sea and really find out how many players there are out here? I live in Orange County myself, and I'm sure there are other players who do as well.
It's my hope that Pro-Gaming or at least a more competitive edge to gaming breaks through out here, and I want to be a part of something like that when it does or be someone who does my part and plays. If anybody in the Orange County area is interested in having some LAN parties, starting a psuedo-clan (or maybe clan if the skill level is there!), a new ICCup team, mass gaming, anything! Then let me know here!
I find that when I have other people participating with me in events, the competitiveness level in me rises way above normal, as does my motivation and focus. Playing SC alone or with random people constantly gets old. Pushing each other and knowing a name or a face to who you are playing really makes it more of a versus experience as well as opens chances to get critiqued and improve ones play.
Anywho, let me know if this sparks anybodies interest!
EDIT:If you do live in Orange County, also post in what city you are located and what types of things you would be interested in starting or participating in!

On December 13 2007 11:54 Ender wrote: kinda off topic...but what IS the real oc like anyways?
overly-hyped. none of the stuff on all those shows even happen. i live in the center of OC, and i don't live in a 4.5 million dollar house, or drive my daddy's Mercedes anywhere. even though there are some nice places, it's really no nicer than anywhere else.
I live in Yorba Linda. Check the EDIT of the first post for details since I am getting a few responses! This could be really sick, put some gnar stuff together, hopefully a lot of gaming...
I live in Anaheim and would like to participate in any small LAN's for fun, if it's a tourney with something like $20 buy-in or whatever then no thanks.
Another edit: I'm going to add a list of players, location, then interest so we can make this junk happen! Also a list is something more tangible than just saying we want to be in it.

If anyone wants to hang some time, I'm down. I got a buncha friends who would want to hang and play SC also, so I'll bring along at least like 2-3 more people.
Sweet dude! We should actually all set up a time and event where we can do this before Christmas or whenever during break. I'm actually going to Seoul the 31st and will be gone til school starts again... But before that I'm game!
From the sounds of it, a LAN/chill seems to be the most popular suggestion, so we should put this together. I don't know about you guys, but Saturday the 22nd seems rad. Before Christmas, nobody has school, and hopefully people are around... But it's a weekend on already a break, so people are relatively free?
I'm in San Diego / LA (school in SD) I'd be willing to drive up to an hour any direction for a LAN.
well one LAN we had we actually rented out a house and had a BYOC LAN, had some really fun shit happen !_!...
Cypressman, evade, Froz, me (ofc), some Blizzard employee (nvnplatypus), and lots of other guys ... I think we had around 20 people total. Anyways it was a really great LAN, think I got 4th place @ that, Froz 1st, evade 2nd, cypress 3rd IIRC. The best moment was when Hovz showed up and was going to kick evade's ass for something he did 3 years before.
Anyways, if you guys plan something I'll for sure show up and I know some other people like Day[9] will also come
I dont have a car right now (can get a ride form my roommates though), but I am up for just about anything on the weekends. I work full time Sun-Thurs night shift.
I'm located in San diego as well, but I'm not sure I have the time to dedicate to a clan. However the SD gathering to watch the MSL was a freaking blast.
Moletrap is located in Davis if anything is going on up north.
Alright, this is good so far. Since it sounds like a lot of people are down for this, let's start to discuss the specifics of how this thing will go down...
When? Dec. 29th, something like 10am Where? I'm guessing Irvine or something. What building, and how to get good connection? no idea... :\ Buy-In/Prize????? Bracket style???? Any other events besides tourney?????
Suggestions open for everybody, but let's get this junk rolling!
I forget where we went (Cypress do you remember??? =\)
but if you could find a LAN center o something with BW and ask how much it would be to rent the place out for a day... that would be a big help~
Buy-in/prize : well once we find how much everything will cost, we'll know how much each person has to fork out, then we can determine a little extra per person to go to a prize pool. Bracket style : just make it double elim
that's pretty much it. I guess if anybody knows a good LAN location neat Irvine or whatever, or wants to go searching around for one...

I just recently moved to Irvine from Florida, I used to live in Deltona which is somewhere between Orlando and Daytona Beach. I'll be there from the Christmas to New Years Day.
We could all go to some PC Bang place with SC installed or we could just gather up and watch some damn Korea SC tournament (even though it'll be 1:30am).

I'm in Huntington Beach. I'd be down for a LAN or some kind of tournament. No clan stuff though, I don't have time for that all the time.
Panorama and [CF]Trident live in OC too. I'm sure they would be interested in this too.
PS- A couple years ago this dude held a lan/tourney in a rented building out in anahiem or something. I can't remember his name but it was a success. (do a search for it, he held a couple I think).
Yo I just searched all threads for "orange county" and nothing came up. Ideally we could rent a LAN instead of all just go to one...
If you guys with the friends wouldn't mind asking them to post on this forum so we can get a committed group to do this? I'll post everybody who says they are interested and that way we have something tangible to refer back to.
Well if this uis held or another is held in the first week or two ofd january I'd be down to come to Cali since my family will be in Hawaii without me.I could always pick up Arizonaians or Cali ppl that are on the way.
I'm gonna be gone during almost all of January FuDDx... Bummer, there is no way that everybody that wants to participate will be able to, but! Hopefully if this first one goes well on the 29th (if everything plays out), then we will continue to do these or have much more SC related events/involvement in the future.
Well shoot.... the only other date that isn't as conflicting for people (being gone or whatever) is so soon! The 22nd is very very close, but perhaps that might be better?
Everybody post your availability for a get together and we'll do what we can for our first attempt. I think after that when break is over this will be easier to attempt on the weekends.
I'm in LA but just for college (USC). also have no car XP I won't be around over break, but lemme know if there's anything else planned! I'd love to come to a LAN :D
I'm adding a list of who is available on what dates. So far the 29th is beating the 22nd... I kinda hope it does in the long run as well, 22nd is really close! I'm going to start calling PC bangs tomorrow and see what we can pull off. If anybody has any leads that would be awesome! Thanks Daranee for your input, hopefully we will have more than one of these things so everybody could go. We don't have to necessarily LAN every time, but maybe just set up some chillage, OSL final party, mass-gaming, etc.
I'm seriously down for whatever, I'm just mad sick of being a long starcraft player in a sea of Halo.
i have no idea if i can do the 22nd or 29th. the farthest i plan my schedule is 5 minutes before an event >_>. put me down for the 22nd though, and if anything changes i'll say something
I just went to a PC center today in Aneheim Hills, I talked to a guy who works there and he's gonna have the owner contact me. He says if we work it out we could get however many PC's that we need. When he gets in contact with me, I'll post here how much the whole thing looks like it's gonna cost to do, I'm trying to get him to throw in some "prize" stuff too like maybe free time or at least a warm welcome to do more events... I made the inquiry sound pretty intense, so I hope this fool gets back to me. The normal rates is 3/hour, but I couldn't imagine he'd charge that for a LAN with possibility of future ones.
Hey there SoCal-ers. San Diego here. I'm good to go for LAN or hanging out or prettymuch anything, but I'd prefer not to have to drive much past Anaheim. Also have quite a few friends/roommates/other TLers in SoCal not posting in this thread who would likely be available for starcraft related stuff occasionally. I'd likely be available for the 29th as well.
People who are between me and wherever I am headed can usually get a ride from me as well.

Yo dude talk to your friends and get back to me or have them post so we can start confirming people that are down to do this junk.
Hey guys, just to let you know, I am still LAN hunting. A couple of LAN's haven't been very receptive to the idea of a small tournament (which is insane to me if they knew who TL.net was!). I have sent messages to 3 more centers and I am going to 2 more LAN's tomorrow to further test my luck. I'm really excited to make this thing happen!
Ideally there will be 15-20 of us and the overhead cost will range from $12-$15. Those are my ideas and what I am proposing to the LAN's, so you can stick with that for now as the idea in your mind. Keep letting me know if you are available the 29th, and I will update the OP.
Hey well if you wanna go, whatever man I'm sure you'll learn something ;D. You'd probably learn a crapload by watching, but honestly, just go to the strategy forums on TL and mass game that's your best shot. You got less than 2 weeks! gogogogog
Okay guys, good news! I found a place that is willing to host us. Interpia PC Bang in Garden Grove has agreed to around 20 PC's at $12 a person with a duration of a 6-8 hour tournament! He is looking for specific times and also a deposit.
Check the op for official details, but this is going to happen! Please, begin to invite friends and confirm your attendance to this tourney ASAP, I need as much detail as possible, and since I am going to be spending my own $100 as a deposit, I really need this thing to pull through. I have faith and am easily excited enough about this happening to make that investment, but help me make sure the returns are plentiful!
Someone can just collect all the reps after we've finished. Maps I think can be a mix of new and more standard well known ones so more casual players dont feel left out.
Something simple like Gaia / Luna / Tau / Longinus / Python ... stuff most everyone should know, or at least be familiar with.
If we're going to have 20 players we should do 4 groups with 5 each and top 2 advance to an 8 man bracket where we can do single or double elim (depending on time constraints). Matches should be BO3 (if theres a loser bracket make it BO1). That should allow us enough time to finish it off.

That sounds good, we should throw in something totally current like Blue Storm to mix it up too. Map is so simple yet awesome. That bracket sounds good, we'll know soon how it will all play out. Gotta fill those seats!

wait, are you spor?? cuz if you are, yes i remember you Lol :p
OK sign me up for this but my sister is having a suprise Bday party that night so I might have to duck out beforehand or during or something. What are the maps we will be playing on anyways?
Oh, and what is the prize for winner(s)?
And yea, Syntax I am Aka SpoR/Eye-Loser.
edit oh, you talking 3rd person lol.
So, so far thats 144-180$ total in attendance fees. Do we have enough?
Did you post this tourney anywhere else like GG.net or whatever, because you should.
Well, I told the guy 20 just for reference. I don't think there should be any issues with any less or more, because when I went there, the Bang was far from full.. So opening up some more pc's should be simple or getting more pc's if needed should be the same. The only thing is that I hope he doesn't want the money for exactly 20 if we show up with like 18 or something. That would be stupid... So to be safe I really want 20+ so I'm not out any money, I have like no $$ so this was a risky investment but I'm really amped enough to do it. So yeah, if you got friends please invite!
Did you post this tourney anywhere else like GG.net or whatever, because you shouldI am. I'm gonna spam a few channels too, like marlboro there is a lot of Cali players in there.
Yeah we don't need b.net. I know the bang supports SC, and the owner responded to my email rather promptly so I think that he'll do the prep work and get 20 comps with SC. I think most of them should have it already. I'll bring 2 discs in case.

Can we bring our oblivion hacks btw??
Yeah dude! Bring rusted butterknives for castration afterwards too
I'm in Irvine Really busy this time of year with the girlfriend. I might be able to attend but just to watch and only if the girlfriend is working. Merry Xmas everyone!
I can't wait to get salvaged over and over, haha, but I don't care! I just am way down to chill w/ some gnar starcraft bro's before I go to Seoul and really get raped. Keep inviting people!
Hey everyone, sadly I won't be able to make this one. I knew something would come up damn it, sucks to have the event at such a prime time when all of my friends are back from college. Anyway, I'll be at Lake Tahoe until New Year celebration so I hope you guys have a blast and enjoy yourself.

holy shit, I went to Damron in 5th grade for like half a year. That school had the best free lunch and breakfast stuff I've ever seen (and I've been to more schools than there are grades). It was like all real name brand stuff and/or freshly made stuff. I had 2 teachers Mr. Ogden (I don't think that was his name?) and some other lady for social studies/english I think. That guy hated me, was the first time I ever ditched class in the middle of the day haha.
Shit maybe you can help me remember, I think it was 94/95 when I went there. I remember playing Sunset Riders and The first streetfighter game (with Deejay and cammy) at liquor stores.

Word, let me know dude. Don't worry about skill level and getting rocked, I'm going just to get owned and hang out. I've had this game for almost 10 years, but never really tried to understand competitive play til about 4 months ago and I'm the one heading this LAN up, haha. So w/e

I didn't go to Damron cause I thought it was a shitty school but I guess I was wrong. The school has changed a lot since those days.
What city do you live in? I remember playing Sunset Riders/Ninja turtles/Street Fighter at places like Shakeys and Round Table Pizza.
I live in Huntington Beach. But I've lived all over, I can't really remember much about cypress except the college, a movie theatre on the way to school and that I lived on a street near train tracks and my best friend was some black kid named Smokey who never wore shoes. I used to take the bus to school and there was some kid who had a walkman and played the Warren G song "Regulators" feat Nate Dogg and invited us over to watch Leprechaun 3 or something.
He's coming as far as I know last time I talked to him, I can check again soon... by the way, when does this start again? I have another tournament at 9:30 or something, team leader tournament that I really wanna play because it's nice to play in newbs only tourney!
I hope it won't conflict with the LAN, or maybe I can show up early and just play it over there.
Haha true, but being a professional college student, 11:30 is about the time I wake up nowadays. But who knows, maybe I'll just show up out of the blue and let you guys stomp on me for a while.
PS- any mod reading this could we get this thread stickied/featured for today and tomorrow? Would help remind people because it seems like we might be short players.
For anyone concerned about their playskill... I haven't played any sort of seriously since 2001. The last actual game I played was in September. I meant to practice a bunch this week and I haven't made time to even open my disc drive.
It doesn't matter how good or bad you are or how long it's been since you've played; come down (or up, or sideways or wherever you might be coming from) and play, if only because it'll be fun.
lol some bar called Bart's pub charged me 18.50$ for 1 beer last saturday and I called them today and talked to Bart himself and he said he would refund the mistake but he could only do it in cash so I'm gonna pick it up on the way over to the lan and use it to pay for my admission >__<
Good thing its like 2.5 miles away (saves me gas and time). PS- The bar is very unorthodox people smoke inside etc. Last Saturday some punk bands played there one was called Inozuma (japanese punk) and the other 'Beer Crisis' was doing mostly cover songs. Some could go there afterwords or something? I don't really like punk but it was cool.
**eZ didn't play: sonic or CharlieMurphy **CharlieMurphy didn't play: eZ or Acetv **sonic didn't play: eZ **Acetv didn't play: Charlie
So there were a couple games that didn't finish, but those are the stats from all matches played. Overall, it was about 7 hours of gaming or whatever, really tiring. Some nice games were played, I think me vs sonic series was really exciting, and eZ vs Machine series was really awesome too, but neither of them remembered to save any of the replays T_T .. but Machine had a really nice comeback in 3rd game where he was 95% dead and eZ was lazy as fuck (lol). Me vs CharlieMurphy game 1 was really funny too, I got owned T_T
Yo everybody, next LAN is February 23rd. I'm gonna work out $10 cover for PC's, and $5 extra for buy in so we can have a prize. Mark your calendars, there is plenty plenty of time to get ready for it, it should be sick and way bigger. Also, check out the op for photos of the event. Word

Cool I can probably make that one. But is there really gonna be a buy-in? I have like no chance of winning anything
well... you would have to pay something to play anyways, and what's an extra few bucks to put towards a prize pool? tournaments with prizes are much funner and more competitive.

You should start a new thread for this. I don't have any plans for Feb 23rd as of the moment so maybe I will be able to make that one. Christmas time = lots of plans and no time for a LAN =(
oh, sorry guys lol. Last night after the lan i got really really faded and played some poker. So I was sleeping all day because of that and I have sort of a cold right now. Here let me PM them to Quesa and he can do what he likes with them.
