First of all, hats off to BLinD-RawR, BisuDagger et al. who spend their precious time writing ASL previews. I almost always read through all of them before the actual match starts, and love the high quality content coupled with match history, map statistics, etc.
A pattern I noticed: these preview articles typically only appear about 6~8 hours before game start. However well written, the value of the preview article plummets to zero upon game start. Therefore, the earlier a preview can be published, the more value it will provide to the community. It will also allow time for the community to respond, and chime in with facts that they know, etc., and that will bring up the hype as well.
I know it's a lot to ask for. Maybe there are reasons I'm not aware of?

That is a reasonable request. My guess is because it's volunteer work, life stuff takes precedence (as it should) and you get less time between matches to write up stuff when it isn't the finals.
They are well written articles though. Hats off to them for doing it.

I agree, but most often we don’t get time until the weekends to write stuff cause busy work lives and the every week schedule during a season gets pretty intense. Plus we usually break out the work between a few of us and we are all victim to our own schedules and where live in the world/time zones.
We also have been scrapping by on like 3-4 writers and 1 artist for about 4 years.
I don’t disagree with what you request, maybe we can do better deploying articles in the future. One of the reasons I’m testing AI for articles is so we can deliver content quicker. I’m hoping I can use my own written content combined with AI to format my work, to produce faster high quality content going forward (Assuming BR still likes me )

Put out a call for more writers?

99% of the time I'm the reason articles are out late, I'm usually the last one to finish because just weekends aren't that good for me to actually put in the time for them, plus any editing and formatting.
I do get lucky a few weeks where I'll get time or I have enough other writers that I don't have to personally write those get to come out at least 12-24 hours before.
As for getting in more writers, I've gotten almost no responses the last couple of times we did recruitment, but if people are interested I'll setup some minor test(or show your prior work in coverage of any esport) and we'll take it from there

Think I will take this occasion to post the relevant stats of our finalists:
+ Show Spoiler +The ZvZ win rates in the last 12 months: - Overall (all games): Hero 110-82 (57.3%) vs Soulkey 88-84 (51.2%) - Proleague only: Hero 63-46 (57.8%) vs Soulkey 52-52 (50%)
Head to head (all maps): Hero 19-15 Soulkey
But on this season map pool: Hero 8 - 11 Soulkey - Blitz Y: 0-1 - Citadel: 1-1 - Retro: 1-4 - Radeon: 2-0 - Neo Dark Origin: 2-3 - Apocalypse: 2-2 - Troy: 0-0

Hero might have an edge in micro, as Soulkey's micro is not the best among top zergs. Unfortunately the way I see it (disclaimer: I don't have 2000 MMR, and I'm not a zerg player), ZvZ comes down to opening advantage, and ling & muta micro, for the most part.
However, some strategies could help. I remember Soulkey won a series vs Zero in ASL, where one of the games he used a hidden extra base to produce mass lings, and caught Zero off guard.
Yesterday I saw Soulkey talking to Calm in his stream. Does anyone know if Calm is offering any tips to Soulkey?

Would be nice for hero to get his first ASL championship trophy, but.. I think it's going to be Soulkey winning 2nd in a row.
Whatever the result - I hope it will end in 6 or 7 games.

Would it help to donate to a Patreon for Teamliquid writers? I'd happily donate a bit to make it more manageable for the writers.

I won’t speak for others, but I do all my work for free. I genuinely just love contributing. When I ran tournaments I gave all my donations back as tourney money too.
That being said, that is a super generous thing to offer and you are awesome!

but obviously all of us have other fulltime jobs and families that take our time, much like our community, our staff isn't getting much younger.

What's the compensation currently?

Ko-fi > Patreon (Ko-fi does not take a fee while Patreon does).
I am happy to see more and more people using it.

Here is a preview and prediction: Expect at least 4 games of ZvZ, and the ASL studio will not be packed ^^
I enjoy posts like this, because yes essentially tl.net is ran by volunteers (with a limited amount of time) but the fun part is that everyone and anyone can contribute. Lots of things you don't have to be staff for. You earn respect the same.

Here are my predictions based on the latest ZvZ science:
Using a 1999 US Quarter I flipped it 7 times. Hero = heads, Soulkey = tails.
Set 1 : Hero < Soulkey Set 2 : Hero < Soulkey Set 3 : Hero < Soulkey Set 4 : Hero > Soulkey Set 5 : Hero< Soulkey
Set 6 : Hero - Soulkey Set 7 : Hero - Soulkey
Soulkey wins ASL17 4-1

What's the compensation currently? During tournament season and for the active writers, good enough for a lunch or two It's not great but I don't really do it for the compensation honestly (like BD), I do it cause i love this game and like writing.
In general, the main issue is simply lack of writers. We have 3-4 writers and as BD and BR have said, some times we drop one or two writers for a period of time because life stuff comes first. It's the worst when it's early in the tournament and we have so many groups and games to go over, so we typically just don't get to all of them. Later in the tournament it's easier because each person has their own matchup or recap to do, but again, usually we submit this like on Friday or something.
We'll do our best to push these out faster though, hopefully on Thursday/Fridays would be ideal and let people absorb the content and have time to digest it. We can certainly discuss internally on how to make that happen, but we appreciate the feedback!

Among progamers Soulkey has been known to be a ZvZ free win. I mean, he still wins 50%, as we can see in the proleague stats, but that's far below his dominant performances in other matchups.
For example, Queen has a much healthier ZvZ rate despite not having overall as good of a winrate

What's the compensation currently? Like people have said, the money isn't really the issue. Since a bit of ASL coverage is never gonna add to a job, we all have other things to do, so it's not easy to find the time. Because I was working on something important last month I didn't even have time to watch all the matches during the week...
