I'm quite surprised myself for this new format... completely unexpected.
Dates: OSL Qualification Round will be on 29th and 30th (will explain soon) Group Drawing will be on March 31st The new OSL will start on April 5th
Changes: - There will now be a total of 24 players, instead of 16. (the new 8 players will be chosen in the OSL Qualificaiton Round) - Prize money will increase. - Instead of just Friday, there will now have OSL on Wednesday, AND Frieday... thus, 2 OSL's a week insetad of 1. - Dual Tournement will no longer play during the OSL. It will start after the current OSL, so the players aren't so busy anymore. - Due to the increase in players, there will now be 6 seeds instead of 3 seeds for the next OSL. All 4 players from Semi Finals will be seeded, and the 4 players who lost in Quarters will play a 5th/6th Place Match for last two seeds. - There will be no more ODT R1 PlayOffs (since there's no more seeds left) - ODT R1 and ODT R2 will now become one massive ODT.
New OSL Format:
Round Of 24 (omg..) - 6 Groups of 4 players will play a full league like the previous Round of 16, and the top 2 will advance. (12 advance) - The 6 players who came in third will play in a "Wild Card Match" and each play a 1v1. The winners advance (3 advance) - The 3 losers in the "Wild Card Match" will play a full-league (A vs B, B vs C, A vs C) and the winner will get the last seed. (1 advance)
Round of 16 and up: - Ro16 and up to finals will be tournament style. - Ro16 and Ro8 will be bo3. - Semi Finals and Finals will be bo5.
New ODT Format: - Total of 36 players. 18 from Off-line Qualification Tourney, 18 from Previous OSL who didn't get seeded. - ODT will be 9 Groups of 4, like previous ODT's. - The top 2 will advance to next OSL (18 advance, 6 seeds = 24 players)
Like I said, I'm completely surprised. I actually checked my calander to make sure it's not April 1st or something.
I can why they need to increase the amount of players, since there are so many good players right now just changing places in the starleague, but why would they choose to do it now one wonders..?
I think we need a term for it. Let's call it the "Boxer effect" or something.
Hey, wouldn't it be rich if Boxer didn't qualify even so?
haha yeah i wonder if they did that to give boxer another chance to qualify.
are the leagues still going to take the same amount of time? i.e. are there going to be the same number of leagues per year? it seems kinda long, and making the dual play at a different time...
Sounds like they really like want Boxer in that osl . We'll see how this turns out, osl 2 times per week is definitely great, but 24 players might be a little too much...
Rock Midas GF and Boxer lost on the Quarters. Midas and Rock qualified... -_-;; Boxer vs GF? If Boxer loses this..... OMG -_-; But is that even what happens?
Plus, bigger tourneys mean more fun. Come on, there are now enough SL champions that we can make multiple SL's with their rosters alone in a 16 man format. And better prize money only means better pro gaming pay.
Didn't see it coming, but it think it's a welcome change. 16 was just too few. Also more prize money is always good for the game. Think they have overly complicated the seeding though, but I do suppose it means more matches^^
It was ok to download an average of 300-400 megs every weekend. But now, as we have also games on wednesday, this is too much effort to download every playday. By this I think, I will have to follow the upcoming osls much less even though they are bigger.
Sort of lame that the 3rd/4th place match is now as meaningless as it used to be, but other than that, it's not too big a deal. I like that it's *much* easier now to stay in the OSL if you're a top player (twice as many seeds), so we won't have to look forward to quite so many shitty ODL R2 draws tossing the 4th place player from the previous OSL back into the ODL R1.

There will probably be a difference in pricemoney for finishing 3rd or 4th, so we have have to hope that both players are greedy
The Qualification Round or w/e I called it will be made of 16 people. 6 from the players in current ODT, (that includes BoxeR) and 10 from an off-line tourney. This means NaDa and Reach may have a chance too, I think.
this looks like a very well put together schedual. This excludes the posibility of being some sort of "bOxEr efect". It is although encouraging for players like nada, reach, yellow, kingdom marine sync and many more old schoolers as they would consider retiring. So this is a pleasent surprise the least and maybe the biggest and more important change for the future of bw.
the new 5th/6th place match takes some concern off in terms of having an intense final match.
the only thing I wish they would have would be some sorta of double elimination, because as of right now draw is still and uneccessarily huge factor in determining who wins.
It's a little suspicious that they introduced this new format when everybody had already qualified for the next osl and after Boxer'd lost. If this didn't have anything to do with Boxer, they would've introduced the new format right after the last osl and done the qualifiers according to their new format, no?

Or not.
Last OSL many got dissapointed. I think that they react to all dissapointed fans, that wanted a great serie between oov and july. If they increase the players and bo series. It will (hopfully) result in more exiting games, at least more chanses to make games exiting beacuse there are more players and matches.
DTDominion, how is this worse than the old OSL format? Like the old format didn't depend on draw -_-;; plz. The group stages are insane, plus wild cards will make for such intense games. Even the ODT seems like it'll be cooler to watch instead of that R1 R2 rounds.
And for whoever said they can't follow progaming cuz of too many games, watch the Ro16 and up smart guy -_-;; It'll be same as old OSL.
And yes, I really want Boxer to win, but with so many more players... omg.

of course the old format depended on draw, i'm dissapointed they didn't fix it.
i could be wrong and i'm already warming up to it more, i just feel it's underwhelming compared to what they could have rennovated.
The Qualifiction Match will include the following players.
- 10 players from an off-line Qualification touney (March 28th) - 6 players from the current ODT R1: AnyTime, Child, ClouD, GooDFriend, BoxeR, and Sync
The OSL Qualification Match will be on March 29th and 30th. They will be in 4 groups of 4, and the top two from each group will qualify.
This means BoxeR has a great chance, and so do people like Reach, NaDa, XellOs, etc.
Groups are picked, arent they? So unless the station bribed the individual players to pick certain players, they won't be able to. (PS yay for Anytime)

Boxer is in final. Let's introduce the golden mouse.
Boxer is not in starleauge. Let's make a new rule so he will.

Yes that's like two incidents long ago after he slumped (when you slump you need cheat) it's really really safe to tell that they would do anything, including murder for the sake of boxer.
Seriously, the golden mouse Is a boxer promote thing a little but this? rofl
