edit: how is "post-count matters" significantly different than "apm matters"?

percentage wise, yes higher apm usually means better player & higher post count usually means better poster but using it as a litmus-test is foolish

there should be a rule though, like u must have N Vouches in order to vouch. maybe N should be based on some formula, like avg amount of vouchs * X / (X+1) where X is whatever number seems to work well.. so at first, it would be 0. but it would keep increasing as the vouchs increase. the function must do this, surely.

the only reason i went into all this was because klogon is an admin, normally if someone pokes me like that i just tell them to fuck a goat and continue with my day

there is just some disagreement over what is and isn't a pointless post. we all have different standards when it comes to pointlessness. often it seems clear that u could ignore a certain person forever and you wouldn't miss anything -- all they type are the equivalent of LOL everywhere they go. some people find that to be whimsy, fun, whatever, and some don't. other ppl find that when someone types more than 3 lines of text its "boring" and "dumb" and the person is just "trying to look smart" or whatever other ways they've come to interpret what they don't understand or can't find interest to justify the effort to understand ... whatever anyways, i dont think vouches wuld be too abusable as long as the function that sets the minimum rule is high enough. if abuse is rampant, u adjust the function until it's not. pretty simple

I didn't get used to write long posts at all, if the topic is not worth it. I'm writing rather short posts in such threads like GGL , ProLeague or other stuff and I try to write longer in General Discussion.

One liners are good for jokes, they rarely do anything for an intelligent discussion. There's time and place for both of course. The thing is with an average person is that they can' tthink of anything to contribute or don't think for long enough. The first reaction is the most basic one, like "ah" or "lol". People just post their first reaction if there is one. If they could sit on their ass a while longer and wait for all the initial trash to emerge, without losing focus on the matter at hand, the next thing that comes up is original thought. Most people either can't or don't want to focus on topics for long enough, or don't want to contribute. They're lurkers/leeches on this forum, letting some active people educate and entertain them. TL's moderators work at reducing the amount of leeches, and that's why on the grand scheme this forum is of a rather high quality. You can't force random people on the internet to contribute. So the forum should both try to capture good posters (invite friends, offer content like news, articles and events that will attract more people), and to control the leeches, to improve the average quality of posts, though perhaps some amount of idiots is needed to make the forum more fun. On another note, I've always liked the "vouches" idea. Are tehre UBBs that use it? I'd be fairly surprised to find out that there aren't. The itnernet would disappiont... Post count should, of course, remain, just for curiosity. It does allow some inferences about a poster.

for instance, fakesteve's "tee hee." people need to make posts like that sometimes. they need to be able to "lol" in a thread. but it shouldn't boost their postcount--that makes the postcount less meaningful. people should be recognized for how often they move a topic forward, not how often they simply bump it or "lol" something ambiguous. it would be nice if people would elaborate a bit on what they are responding to at least. sometimes a "lol" is very ambiguous.
