Whever I start computer, or reboot, this thing keeps happening, and its been going on for a week or two now and it ROYALLY pisses me off
basically.... right after i see Windows ME screen, i get this black screen with white writting... same kinda looking screen as when u see all that info shit at start of computer
but it says this:
"Please wait while Setup updates your configuration files. this may take a few minutes.."
now normally... when it says something like this when installing files and shit it only takes few seconds cuz im P4 and its fast..... but it LITERRALY takes a few minutes... i have to fuckin get up and go do something while i wait for it to finish
when it does finish... it says:
"Completed updating files, continuing to load windows."
WTF is this? such a waste of time omg...... how can i disable this??
thx <3

dude, you are infected with at least one virus, probably multiple viruses, not only is it impossible to guess what your computer may do next, its also pointless.

Just buy a new computer. Every fucking week you have a new problem, just shell out a few hundred bucks for new parts, and either build it yourself, or ask someone else to build it for you. It'll be worth it.
Edit: To be roughly on topic, i have no idea =)

Mmmmm... I think it's time to consider a low-level format. And get a real OS. Well.... pseudo-real like w2k. DL before the latest service pack, a firewall and an antivirus to install them before you get online.

actually someone mentioned linux in another thread, and thats not all too bad of an idea considering what veg says he does. If you truely only surf the net, play poker, and play broodwar, then you might considering downloading Mandrake10. It has a nice GUI and feels very windowsy, plus its free. You only need disc1 of the 3 disc set at www.mandrakelinux.com however you will need the other discs if you intend to use just about any other feature on the system. But it will get you on the net.
I only mention this because i get the feeling veg is out of options for a format, he has no OS to reinstall and no money to get one and no sources to download one and use freely the way he wants to.

I had Windows ME for 4 years. I never had anything like that. Don't blame the OS. You need to watch what you download, I mean only download what you KNOW is safe from now on (IE starcraft reps that end in .rep, videos that end in video fromats, etc...). Something is obviously wrong, it probably is a virus because it shouldn't need to update so much. From what you said it sounds like a DOS screen AFTER Windows starts which is why it is fishy. It's not the BIOS or CMOS because they are already up by then.
Anyway, you do sound like you have been having issues lately. Best you reformat the hard drive, reinstall and move on. From then on WATCH WHAT YOU DOWNLOAD (down to each file). Also, the first things you will want to install are spyware removers. You will get experience with reformatting if you've never done it before. Just ask how on the manufacturer's message board or something. I can walk you through it too if you want because I used to run Windows ME.
Reformatting isn't that bad. I can do it in like an hour now because I'm used to it. But make sure you don't have anything you need on your hard drive.
Before you reformat though, click Start > Run > type msconfig > Ok > Check Selective Startup > Uncheck "Load Startup Items." Click Apply, Ok, reboot. Tell me if that fixes it.

Veg here are your options.
1. Go to OpenTechSupport.net and sign up for an account [ It's free ], there are fucking smart people over there, they can help you and I guarantee none of them who are devoted to the site are lazy, they will do whatever it takes to help fix your problem.
2. Buy a new computer/have a good trusted person build one [ Cheaper ]
3. Realize what you're doing wrong, I see your threads all the time but I don't bother helping you, although I help alot of other people with comp problems, because there are alot of people who are knowledgeable but I guess what you're doing is beyond their control. It's okay if you watch porn, use p2p apps and all other malware infested shit as long as you know how to get rid of it, I know I do, I use BitTorrent/WinMX and I've been fine because I KNOW how to clean up shit. Get someone to educate you, I think I have explained it to someone before so I'll copy paste it to you if you'd like.
4. Only use it for starcraft - _-v
Btw gj on WCG man.
Edit: Btw, nothing is wrong with Windows ME, I used for 2 years without a fucking sinch and I knew nothing about computers at the time.

reinstall os, dont dl porn. problem solved

Aside from everything else, why on EARTH are you using ANY realone product? They are the fucking devil -_-
"HI CURRENTLY YOUR REALONE PLAYER IS ONLY SET TO OPENING REALONE FILES WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE IT SO THAT IT OPENS EVERY FUCKING FILE ON YOUR HARDDRIVE?
(YES) (DETAILS) "
They hide the fucking 'remind me later' button inside the details option, and they have no 'Fuck off' option.
-_-
