Rain, previous winners of Ongamenet Starleague and GSL, has selected retirement a day after Flash held his retirement ceremony. Rain came to the reporter seat after the ceremony was over and talked about his retirement. He said that donating part of his liver required him to rest for a bit, and made it difficult for him to play games. Rain has thought of retirement since he has left SKT1, but chose to postpone it for a year.
Rain became the Ongamenet Starleague champion in 2012 after beating DRG in the finals. He has also achieved second place in 2013 WCS Korea Season 2 Starleague, and became a GSL champion in 2015 GSL Season 2 after beating ByuL. There are only 2 other players who have won 2 Korean Starcraft 2 Starleagues: Classic and Maru.
However, Rain needed a long period of rest after donating a part of his liver to his father, and made his decision on the day his good friend, Flash, left the scene as well. It was truly an end fitting for the 3 Musketeers.
"Thank you for my fans, who have loved me throughout my career."
note: The 3 musketeers bit is not literal. 도원결의 comes from "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", which is like a fantasized book based on a period of Chinese history and is very famous in China, Korea, and Japan. Kinda like Star Wars as to the fandom because people who know it go really, really deep into it, and there are some casuals like me. I recall someone asking for translation for it on Seeker's thread so if he/she is watching...

nooooo... TT so sad to see him retire, but he had an amazing career and his health is obviously more important now. I wish him all the best and good luck for the future.

Goodbye Handsome Toss. ;__;

His reason doesn't make sense. You can take a break without retiring. Is this like Soulkey's "retirement" aka an extended break?

Im so sad T_T Wasn't expecting this at all.

i wouldn't compare 도원결의 to 'three musketeers'. for those ROTK fans out there, it refers to the peach garden oath at the start of the novel between liu bei, guan yu and zhang fei.

Sad day, Rain was a great player. Even as a super standard toss he could get you on your seat. Good luck and best wishes.

As stated in the op he was thinking about retirement, combined with the medical issue from donation and departure from SKT1. I'm sure the WCS news didn't help his decision.
Even with WCS being racist towards Koreans, not all retirements are going to be about new policies.

Hmmm I guess it would be a lacking thingmajig, but I thought it might have been passable due to the extreme friendship shared in common by the 3 dudes making an oath (die at the same day) (All for one) But that's why I put in the note anyway! Do you have any other suggestion?

i actually have no idea as i've seldom heard the term being used in relation to flash/rain/mystery third player who's retired.

Bye Rain, thanks for the memories. He was my favorite player after MVP. I haven't watch SC since the Proleague finals and with Rain's retirement and the dumb 2016 WCS system, I think I'm done with this game for good.

I understand now why the legendary progamers retired and some of the others consider to do. Obviously the new WCS system foreced Korean players to do. it's just like a s**t. If SPOTV or GSL doesn't open an additional league for Korean players, the SC2 Scene could be dead, i'm afraid.
