Apophis Prime 1v1 by MrMcScribbles Large (Playable 164x148) (Full 184x176) Playable on the Americas, Europe, Korea and Taiwan, and Southeast Asia servers.
Five standard expansion choices.
Gold is available to whomever is brave enough to mine it.
I tried my best to provide players with an Island-like area to fight for gold. Please enjoy. I'd love to hear about the Battles!

Are none of the expansions using a standard mineral/gas layout?
Oh god, so many of those geysers are ineffective... And don't even get me started on the minerals.
Also that map size is huge considering how few expansions it has.

Well Hero... Thanx for the comment. To tell the truth Im not a pro at level design, I only own Wings of Liberty, and I'm just a fan. I wish I had all the new expansions, but I don't. Starcraft2 captured my imagination a long time ago, and I wanna thank Blizzard for the editor..what a creative bonus. I entered the TLMC7 with this map because I do believe the requirements specifically said "never seen before". I have seen Maps with rogue mineral fields while watching the pros play. What I have done in this map is drastic. Something new always is. From what I have read recently, island-like areas interested players and developers. Im more of a traditional art guy. Oil paintings and stuff. I did my best to learn the editor to build what I though was a beautiful frozen astroid...that I can play starcraft on. And I would love for you to get started about the minerals, hence why I posted here. I'll admit I don't know the finer details of level creation. I joined teamliquid for more constructive criticism.

The maths implied in changing mineral/gas start is apparently too much to ask for from players :/
I always thought (for instance) that putting only one gas at the start spawn location (with a layout that would compliment it) was the bacon gateway meat (a feature that would help these types of changes being "accepted"/implemented) and that it might lead to more variety (gas only expos and such) in the map pool.. but I am still patiently waiting for it to happen...
Just to illustrate: a 1 gas main would force a real choice between gas and minerals, would most likely eradicate turtling and yes push for early all ins into a different mid game.
Again, this is not advocating for all maps to have such a feature (among others of that type) but one out of 7 would be interesting.

I have adjusted starting location and 5 standard expansion mineral fields/vespene geysers. (Based on a great chart I found here on TL) Not to mention polishing of aesthetics and over all ambiance. The areas with rich resources are intended to be equally precarious to mine. Those who mine, have the potential to augment their income and field position as the game develops. I wanted to avoid providing any one player with a 100% rich base.(which usually ends in a predictable fashion). Please give it a try with your friends.

i'm assuming the gold minerals are actually supposed to be blue? i remember someone else saying they had a similar bug a few months ago.
|
Yes NegativeZero! thanx for mentioning that. My export map image is plagued with sepia tone or something, I don't know how to fix it. I get more screenshots up soon.
|
Interesting concept. With the center being so choked its kind of like a half-island map.
I really like the concept of having minerals not in a standard base layout. I would make a map like that if I wouldn't be too lazy.

I certainly had fun learning a bit more about the editor, and entering this in the Map challenge 7. Thanx for the work You all do arranging such a contest. I can only assume my map was an instant throw away based on how Apophis Prime never showed up on any of the sidebar lists or guessing games associated with TLMC7. With entry categories like "Innovative and new gold" or "never seen before", I thought I might rattle a few chains with this map, or at the very least gain some feedback on this idea. Even a tip on how to fix my export map image would be appreciated!

Can you post what your export image menu looks like including the checklist?

|
i remembered, it was the_templar who had the bug, idk if he ever fixed it, but he might know how
|
Huh, I wonder if there's something in preferences that's causing it. 'Cause my export looks about the same.
I actually thought the map was brown/white and thought it was really cool looking.
