I know how amazing van basten had been. I dont like comparing old amazing players, so called legends with the new generation of amazing soccer players , because u cant find the right choice. So i would prefear having a vote from all of the active top scorers ( henry, ruud, sheva, drogba, etoo .. ect.. ) and between all the old legends ( pele, van basten, maradonna, ger mueller, ect.. ) Henry is definitely one of the most skilled players ever and van basten is as well but they both played at a different time and i guess football got much faster and better now adays.. its like comparing sampras with federer .. u cant.. i think federer is much better but sampras is a legend and also ruled.. in his prime.. so waht.. Van Basten played in the 90's... It wasn't much of a different game. Beyonder is totally right, half the people voting are clueless on this one. edit: hehe clueless is kinda harsh, lets just say they are wrong

I didn't see Van Bastan have any long hard shots. Was that because he didn't have any or because the video didn't show any of his (I know that this sentence sounds condescending, but I am genuinely serious). I also agree with Magic Phil. Not because I think Henry is better than Van Bastan. That is hard to judge because the only footage I have seen of Marco has been on youtube. I would have to see how he would play in the game, away from the ball. How he moves, the runs he makes, and how he could create chances. But that it is hard to compare generations; or frankly the early 90s to now. It has been only 15 years, but it seems like soccer has really evolved. The only way that I know of comparing people from different generations is by comparing how much they dominated their own generation. And again I don't know enough of Van Bastan to accurately comment. But I do know that he created, at least this is what I am told, the Van Bastan soccer move (also called the step over or the scissors). ^^

You are clueless, because its very different. Did u see with which speed van basten could go through some defenses ? Did you see how fast Henry is and how he just outruns almost everyone ?? whatever.. as i said their is no right or wrong.. its just impossible to make a good vote if players from different times meet up against each other..

But you are right about opinions. I just like it when discussions become a little heated so don't take me too serious.

sheesh, I bet more than half the people who voted for Henry only did it because the video quality is better and you have some english dude saying "OOHHHH henry magnificent!!"

however van basten was a greater striker. a huge shame he had to retire so early. and I voted van basten even though I think henry has overall been the second best player of the past 5 years.

more over i think Henry is better in terms of skills than Van Basten, but this is just an opinion.. and no one can prove this right or wrong.. so what.. one thing is for sure : Henry is one of the best players to play the game for a long time now . You have to accept that, cause thats a fact. p.s : If the vote would have been Henry vs anyone playing activeley today and not pele, maradonna, van basten, zidane, ect.. i would have definitely voted Henry.. so I'll just put Batistuta instead of him, just because he scored so many goals and he is also from Argentina
