In this week's issue of KHgames newspaper in the small letters section where progamers write to each other Firebathero (Lee Sungeun) wrote to Savior (Ma Jaeyoon). My assistant and I translated the article tonight.
(Photo removed due to this http://starcraftvn.net/svn/showthread.php?t=1501 )
Jaeyoon, hello,
Wow it's really awkward;; we are same age and we never spoke casually.
남자들끼리 이런 편지 쓰는 것도 어색한데...그렇죠? ^^;; A letter between men, how weird... right?? ^^;;
To be honest, I didn't know who to write to, and MJY came up into my mind first-_-
Come to think of it, there were a lot of stories(or events?) between you and me.
We provoked each other at the group selection ceremony.
I realized that I may have made you feel bad because it was always me who started provoking.
Knowing we are not that close to each other, well, I'm a timid person.
People around told me how nice a person you are, and I felt bad.
When I was a rookie, I first met you from magazine shooting.
From that day, I've always thought of becoming friends, but because of the career difference between you and me, I found it difficult talking to you. Really timid huh? keke
Even when we meet from games, and even with our many show downs between us, we only got to say hello, and that's why I think we couldn't get closer.
If you ever felt offended or made you feel bad, I only want to apologize for what I've done to you. and I hope we can become a great associates.
If I ever get a reply, I strongly suggest you to use the casual language, ^^;; then BYE!
|
Wow.. FBH's true nature shining through there.
|
FBH seems anything but timid. I'm glad he gave an apology though, maybe people will stop hating him.
|
|
I'll be damned, well done FBH.
|
this wouldn't happen if savior wasn't so down and low, even fbh felt sorry for him..
MJY should stage a come back.. the maestro cant be pitied like this.
|
|
FBH = stand-up guy
maybe some will change their opinion now. but will this hurt his notoriety???? haha

rofl, it almost sounded like a love letter with FBH being a shy girl.
you sure FBH wrote this and not some yaoi fangirls?

And I still hate FBH. If I ever make it to korea, you'll see a white guy jumping from the audience and punching FBH in the face during one of his celebrations.
|
oh my god lawls lol if I didn't know the letter was to mjy, i wouldve been like "wut timid love letter wut"
|
now with that off his chest, savior will make a valiant return!

My sarcasm detector isn't working for translated Korean.
But depending on the tone, this could actual be seen as a huge dis by FBH.

awwwww...
maybe Savior can give the easy button to fbh.
|
Savior seems to have lost his easy button long ago... he should check his couch cushions.
|
I have never seen FBH ceremonies as bad mannered I think they just looks like wining celebrations... so even if I think this is sort of unnecessary, it shows what kind of player he really is. FirebatHero Fighting!
|
This better not be the end of the silly stupid FBH celebrations
|
|
You guys are idiots. You drove yourselves into this frenzy of fbh-hate. And now that he's pulled his head out of his ass and apologized,
kids still want their drama
Seriously, he seems like a nice guy who likes to goof off. He made the faux pas with running around SaviOr, but he never did that again. And, yeah, the crotch dance looks stupid, but he's looks like he has fun doing it.
Why this level of hatred?
|
Savior deserved the mockery considering he is in such a slump.
Besides I never liked Savior and think he is boring (might have something to do with the fact that I am a Terran user)

Oh my god, that was made public? Why the hell didn't FBH just talk to Savior personally if he wanted to apologize... stupid move boy. I liked FBH until I saw this topic but now he's just a joke. Why for heaven's sake couldn't he just keep his bitchy image, it was much better than this.

lol hm yea after the bnet attack episodes with FBH being absolutely hilarious i've been rethinking my stance on this guy, and now this apology, I think i'm starting to like him =D
I think the people that admit that they were wrong are the most brave. I really don't like people that won't admit that they fucked up, even when they get cornered, so yeay for FBH hope he and savior can get along now =D =D

Yeah, exactly. Just the same pre-made campaign most progamers do when they answer interview questions. Lame.
It was about time his management realized this though.
Edit: He'd apologize personally if he wanted it to mean anything anyway.

I dont think its sarcasm. Maybe his ceremonies are just encouraged by the teams, or he likes being laughed at. If Savior took them lightly they would be funny.
But yah, I dont know why ppl hate him so much. Savior was BM as hell while he was in his winning streak. Didnt he say in an interview how he likes to provoke people to turn up the heat between players?

Hmm, I'll try go.go because he's ugly, I haven't really paid any attention to Backho so I guess I'll keep ignoring and hating him. It's tough to like someone if you don't pay them any mind.
Firebathero has entertained me in his games several times, so I'm not going to hate him because of ceremonies when my interest is in StarCraft.
As far as the apology, it would make my year if in their next meeting Savior won, now more than ever. + Show Spoiler +And as far as Jangbi, it also made my year that Nada beat him in his OSL match recently, because after their last match many said "wooo Jangbi next big Protoss imba! But of course, he's always been the "next big Protoss." Just more proof it will never be.

Protoss always have their 'Next Big Guy' who never actually comes out and dominates. Why do you think there's never been a Protoss Bonjwa?
Terran and Zerg lead through action.
But I digress. FBH... eh, it's uncharacteristic. While I'm sure he personally doesn't dislike sAviOr, there are better fora - such as simply emailing sAviOr, or meeting up with him - for private apologies.
In public, maintaining bad-mannered behavior is strangely the more professional course of action to take.

Well, i guess thats nice.... meh dont really care. FBH should totally own Jaedong out of the MSL now and do the same ceremony.

Picking a path and sticking to it is stupid if you come to realize your path was wrong. It's not cool; it's stubborn, in the worst possible way one can be.
Admitting your own faults is what shows true strength and spine.

Hm... As I read in both languages, I felt the nuiance (I think this is the right term, or is it connotations?) of words were little different. I'm not critisizing her translation; I am not good at translating. But to all those who read the English version and said "He's still an ass, etc" I think FBH really meant it in this letter.
But on the last sentence, I think it might be better translated: You should write it not respectfully, because I think 반말 here means more disrespectful than casual.
Also, IMO Savior will be expressionless again when he reads this... isn't he just a cold guy?
To all the Koreans: what is the best translation for 냉정한? I can't quite pick a word that means the same.

FBH didn't need to apologize, he just did because of a few dumbasses who wouldn't let go of something that wasn't even anything wrong. I didn't even find the first ceremony bad at all, I actually count it as among his best.
FBH is one of my favorite pros as he can always make a game interesting and he has personality. Sometimes he does some amazing moves too (both inside and out of the game). Plus i like FBH cause he makes savior fans qq all over the place like its gonna help make savior beat him or something.

If FBH really wanted Savior to feel better he should have sent a private letter. And calling himself timid after all those ceremonies? It's more like the guy doesn't know how to behave properly.
He could have explained why he done that to Savior, say, to tease Savior to regain his form back or just to have some fun etc. that'd be at least cool for the fans to know.

lol, the best savior ceremony after beating FBH would be really sarcastically flopping around with a retarded look on his face, then walking to his team bench while shaking his head.

Why are there people calling for a "private letter." If it's private then you wouldn't fucking know about it, would you? It would be even gayer than that BFF pic if Savior came out aid said "yeah i got private letters from FBH saying he apologizes." Clearly this is the best method of communications and also offers something to the fans.

literally 냉정한 would mean cold, rite? well, not cold as in temperature wise or weather wise, etc... but you know what i mean. haha.. though "cold" is used in english to express the same type of sentiment, (e.g. she has a cold personality, she's cold hearted, etc) i think it's too forceful, or too blunt of an expression when it is indeed used in english, which isn't reflected when it's used in korean. i think a better connotation would be detached, in most contexts. in others, it might be translated to frank, callous, blunt, etc. or impartial, unbiased, etc.

It's not cold as in distant, mercyless, careless, cruel or any negative connotation. It's more like cold headed, calm. To make an example, if you watch a rep where you lost an important game 냉정하게, it doesn't mean you watch it with a cold hearted, but more like you watch it with an analytical, calm mindset.

That's good, maybe he'll shake hands next time
|
I don't buy it. Every time there's a camera around that guy is hamming it up, he's not the sort to be serious like this. I think this is more mockery by him on a subtle level. The implication is that Savior is now so bad that he needs FBH's sympathy. For someone of Savior's status who acted so cool and detached to be seen to be losing his cool after getting beaten repeatedly by a clown like FBH is the worst. Do you think he would welcome an apology like this? FBH continues to be Savior's nemesis and this doesn't change anything only puts more salt in the wound. I think its precisely FBH's ability to get under Savior's skin that makes him keep winning when they play each other. Savior functions best in an unemotional zone and FBH is expert at putting him out of it. This 'apology' is just more ammunition. Another think for Savior to think about instead of focusing in his game. I'm really looking forward to the day when 마재윤 exacts his sweet revenge.
|
First off, FireBatHero is a gosu, hands down. Whatever you think of him outside the arena, FireBatHero plays some great StarCraft, and he plays it with style.
In regards to this letter, some people here are being way too analytical. FireBatHero probably saw the VOD when Savior stormed off the stage and slammed the back door when he lost again to FBH (not that long ago), and felt really bad. Obviously before he felt it was all in good fun and part of the game, but when he realised how seriously Savior was taking it, and that he was genuinely pissed, he wanted to say sorry.
The fact that it's a public apology doesn't make it any less real. Sports athletes are role models, even in StarCraft. Being the first to apologise and making a legitimate effort to reconcile grudges shows maturity, and it's a good thing for any young people obsessed with FBH (so that they get a good message, instead of just, "be a goofy jackass and that's all there is to life").
Do you think he would welcome an apology like this? Savior isn't 14 years old. He's a big boy and I'm sure FBH's apology will be enough to make him satisfied with letting bygones be bygones, especially if they go have a drink together or something to talk things out as a result of this letter.

That is actually completely true. FireBatHero is now my favorite player evar. I never disliked him, just wasn't attracted to him (ok, that sounds gay. I don't mean it in the homosexual way). Now, I see that he has amazing powers like myself.
Edit: Even if he is responsible for most of his assholeness, he makes nerds mad, and that is the fucking funniest thing in the world.

If this is authentic, Savior will regain confidence, and win another 8 MSLs! GOGO Ma Jae Yoon! I believe.

FBH is very popular in Korea, and has a huge fan base. He is just a showman, and whatever he did to Savior, I don't think it really had an intention to diss him or whatever. The problem is that the snowball grew big and bigger, especially in the TL.net community(I'm guessing around 80% of it hates FBH), but it's not such a big deal in Korea. Of course some people, especially from the Savior fanbase took it in the worst way, but even among MJY fans, there are a lot of people who don't think it was something done to personally disrespect him.
Anyways, I still think this letter was kinda inapropiate and that if he felt like he needed to apologize in case he gave the wrong impression, he should have done it personally and in private. But I guess FBH can't help it. He just loves the spotlight, even more than Zeus.

I agree. Besides, if Savior was that pissed off, and both being young and living in Korea, they have the perfect way to solve it. First, poktanju competition, and when they get really wasted, go to some back alley and do golmok fighting.

I think Much's revenge ceremony in his match with FBH, as requested by Savior, shows how completely and utterly wrong you were about this.
If you can't see that FBH deliberately winds people up then your character judgment skills must be pretty poor.
"FireBatHero probably saw the VOD when Savior stormed off the stage and slammed the back door when he lost again to FBH (not that long ago), and felt really bad." Lol, yeah, right.
