So thanks to mister Bush I will now be making $43,848 my first year, and $51,025 to $57,432 after two.
Good shit considering I was expecting to make 30k a year when I enlisted.
Gotta love making $43-57k per year as a 20 year old college dropout!
Keep in mind this isn't counting excess pensions/allowances I will be getting such as Sea Pay, Flight deck, Special Duty Pay , Sub pay, Housing/Food/Cost of living/Clothes allowance.
All while I am training in the physics/nuclear field. Fuck college, you all are suckers.

Unfortunately people do shoot at you. Hard to put a price on that.

pretty nice income there. coming back to college anytime soon (ever)?
|
I am going to graduate A school with a bachelors in applied sciences with a math and physics emphasis.
edit - but I plan on taking graduate classes while I am enlisted, they will pay for every class that I take so why not.

I am a nuclear technician. The biggest thing I have to worry about is loosing my sperm count from radiation.

Pretty good salary if you get free food/clothing/housing. Then after army you can buy house after all money you saved up.
|
Nice income and free school FTW!!
And if you make some nuclear discovery here at TL.net we're all gonna be proud of ya!

What?
Where's the front line, I'm going in.

That doesn't sound too bad, but I can focus on my studies now without worrying about money and then look forward to having a much higher pay than you in the future. So I don't feel like a sucker.

You can drown in the navy though.
Also, as you are studying nuclear physics - didnt the US send their own troops near the test areas to check the effects of radiation on soldiers?

Isn't it assumed that if you do anything applied science, there will be an emphasis on math and physics?
Damn though, that's a pretty nice deal you got going. Don't get shot.

50000 just cuz you take a bit of a risk? I knew ppl who would kill anybody they can, for half of that money. Or less.
|
I couldn't be any happier for the pay increase. I'm going into the Marines in May(Reserves, finishing college and earning a commission as a Second Lieutenant) and let me tell you, the Marines are the most underpaid branch of the military. Funny how that works, seeing as it's the most difficult.

I'm hoping the military begins paying their doctors a lot more by the time I graduate cause I am going into the Air Force. I don't see why they don't want to competitive wages. As it is, they try a million other strategies but still are short on medical help.

So you didn't get denied from the nuclear program after all?
What was all that smoke that recruiter was blowing?

I'm glad your pay is getting increased, but it's not like you don't sacrifice anything. Sure, being shot at is a deterrence to most people from joining the military, but it's less so in the navy. However, since you're training in the nuclear field, don't you spend most of your time aboard a nuclear submarine? I heard life aboard a submarine can be pretty stressful... I mean, it's cramped, you get little privacy, and your showers are literally like two seconds long, minus the soaping and lathering.

Actually ill be on an Aircraft carrier, you have to volunteer for sub and that's something I am cool with... Biggest thing about the military for me is spending time away from my gf for such long periods of time.
