http://www.chess.com/ For anyone interested, let's play. You can play either online chess or live chess. Online chess is really slow, sort of like emailing moves to each other. Live chess, is like, well, live - like USCL or ICC.
I'm actually in a locked in a really intense battle against micronesia right now, but I'd like to challenge all of you chess enthusiasts to a faster paced 1 minute (as opposed to the current one week) game of live chess.

The thing I hate about moest of these sites are that they aren't real-time. I can't stand snailchess. I remember I used to play on a website that looked more like a poker/casino-ish website, but that was 10 years or so ago.
So with that, can I ask if this website has real-time chess, with alot of opponents?

I'm CrazyInsanity, just made an account. Looking forward to playing you guys, lets see what you've got =). (Expert level USCF)

somebody should make a team liquid group so it's easier to find everybody
jonnyp on chess.com also

^^We need a premium member to make a group, I am pretty sure micro is a premium member, so when he reads this he will probably take care of it.

The puzzles are fun, but pretty easy

For serious tactics training I would recommend chess.emrald.net. The difficulty ranges between super easy and very obvious one-move puzzles to very difficult problems with several moves. In my opinion by far the best site to train your tactical awareness.
There have been two chess tourneys in the past on tl.net, both organized by The_Spike if I remember correctly. While the first was really good (OnePageMemory and SR17 battling it out in a nice final), the second tourney was unfortunately never finished, partly because both tourneys were played out in single-elimination and bo4 mode - which resulted in a lot of 2:2 games and people waiting for their next opponent.
A traditional round robin with 5/0 timemode sounds great, hopefully people will find time to play their games.

5-0 is too fast for me so I won't participate in that but gl if you host it.

I'm slow. I need at least 15-0 or maybe 15-10 in order to be somewhat comfortable.
|
I'm on Chess.com as Absurd.
|
i'm down, not good with time management though so we'll see how that goes :/
|
15 10 would be good. Though I guess it might end up taking ages.
|
I'm on chess.com as strelok. I've played chess since 5, (12 years). Studied in the St. Petersburg dvorec pionerov (Castle of the Pioneers) - where Spasskiy, Smyslov, Karpov & Kasparov studied. Although right now I'm not active at all, so my performance kinda sucks. Top ICC rating ~2200 at one point. But I'd be more than happy to play with some TL.net members, and perhaps get owned =)

Someone come and play me live. Correspondence is lame.

I play Chess often. It's mostly on Facebook though. Chess tourney, you say?
You can count me in. Sounds worth registering for. What time(s) do you play?

You can count me in. Sounds worth registering for. What time(s) do you play? I'll try to work out the times after I know enough people are willing to play. What's your Chess.com account? And the above was a haiku? So it isn't anymore? Everyone, I think you'll find it more enjoyable to play on live chess: http://www.chess.com/livechess/myhome.html Watch out, though - the server is kind of laggy, so you may get screwed on time.
|
I used to play on live, but I prefer just the standard online now.. You can play 100 games at a time, without running out of time
ALSO it's easier to do tournaments on standard online, you can even host your own o.O
|
i cancelled my account on chess.com. IMO it is completely unsatisfactory to play blitz games due to lag. In nearly all of my games it took up to 4 seconds until the opponent's time started to decrease after a move and even with premove i still get deduced at least 0.5 seconds per move.

If you're worried about time, stick to long games. By the way, I play 1 0 games just fine on that site. You know, the server lag affects your opponent as well, and it actually helps in faster games because it gives you more time to think.

For a free site they're offering a great service, no doubt about that. But as mainly a blitz player lag is very annoying to deal with, and it's nothing i'm used to from other services.

I'll play - Pokebunny @ chess.com , used to play a bit but not a ton (peak USCF like 1200?)
|
ID is n-gam3z. I'll play since i need to get back in shape for the winter/spring season this year.
For anything other than blitz and rapid (or anything other mode under 30 mins) though, i would recommend chessmaniac.com. You get a lot more user features there - without paying money. Aint so with chess.com. Heck, we can even make a teamliquid chess team there :D

there is something wrong with the ranking calculation system in this chess.com wherever I played before it was hard to get fast 1500+ points since winning against even opponents gave me like 12 points or so. here I'm raping shit at 1600-1700 and get like 50 points per win vs 1300-1400 opponents...
|
^^I think your first 10 games or so count extra just so 2000 players don't have to spend a year grinding to get to their natural rank.

I'm still looking to get a couple of games on, live (tricky with the time zones) or correspondence controls, whatever.
