Dial-up is absolutely insufferable nowadays. Don't know about you guys, but back when I had dial-up, even 56,k, a regular game can't handle more than 2-3 people. Otherwise, there's a pause every 3 seconds or so. Anyway, SBC Broadband ftw.

Also, I have 100 mbps (intraweb, romania only) and 6 mbps regular line for 9$/month. NOW who's the under-developed country?? (btw 100 mbps local is awesome because there are several torrent trackers with just romanian users, so i get to dl pretty much all i need at ~5-10 MB/s, except SC vods. )

It's gotten so annoying online, when digg, SI.com, Facebook main page, and many others are incredibly obnoxious to load because they contain eighty million lines of Javascript or something. Keep TL simple and clean, for aesthetics' sake. So many web designers confuse Flash & Javascript for actual page beauty nowadays.

I know someone who still has 56k (because it doesn't cost him anything) and he can host SC games with 8 players without problems. If there were lag, it would be because he has other things running using the bandwidth. But multiplayer games in general don't transfer huge amounts of data. Why should they, anyway? It's mostly game state information. In other areas, dial-up sucks of course. But for multiplayer games it's sufficient (unless you need a very low latency (<50ms, for FPS games)).

I used to have Cable internet until I got a virus, then my video card broke, then my hard drive broke, now my mother board is broken (I think). So I haven't had it since then, I've been using my secondary shit computer in the meantime and I use the cable internet when I'm at work. It also pisses me off that there was a law passed saying that cable internet companies can't be the only ones in a city, that they have to share the districts for competitive market purposes. Then Time Warner just fucking bought out all the other cable providers in the area so they could keep their monopoly and jacked prices. I don't know if I even want to buy their service.
